Buddy of mine today landed this with a 12 ft pinnacle with 6 pound test at the lower lake on Sardis today. Wonder how long it had been living there?http://img.tapatalk.com/a6cd0a61-2b85-5852.jpg

We don't see many shovel bill catfish here anymore or as some call them, spoon bill's...
Used to catch a bunch of em at the spillway in Nader, that is one heck of a catch for sure!!!
WOW! What did it weigh?
Bet that took a while on 6lb line.
Paddle Fish is what American caviar comes from. Because it is so profitable they have been poached so heavily you don't see them as often. I think you are allowed 1 per season!I know you had a blast for a while with that thing!!
OLD GEEZER FISHERMEN NEVER DIE, THEY JUST SMELL THAT WAY!!
He released the fish. Not sure on the weight but had to of been close to the state record of 65 pounds.

Great catch on that lite line. Bet he was wore out by the time he got in.
Wow, I've never seen one of those. Letting it go was the sportsman thing to do.
Never seen one of these so I googled it. Here is info..not a catfish, by the way.
Shovelbill catfish" is a descriptive, if inaccurate, nickname for the paddlefish, one of the most unusual and threatened species of freshwater fish. The immense, flattened proboscis of the paddlefish is the inspiration for "shovelbill" and other colloquial monikers, like "spoonbill." Paddlefish are not catfish at all, but rather belong to an ancient lineage represented today by only two living species.

We have a season for them up here in Missouri! It runs from March 15 to April 30.

I snagged a 65-70 pounder (guessing) on a 16' Tightline Special down there two years ago. Had 10lb line. We chased him down for 30-40 minutes with the trolling motor. He was longer than I am tall (6') including the spoonbill.
