What am I doing ?!?!?!
I just ordered another 175 bare jig heads. On top of the 100 I ordered and painted last month. I've tied about 50 jigs.
Last year I fished about 30 hours per week; half of them trolling and the other half casting from the dock. I lost/destroyed/discarded maybe 15 jigs ALL YEAR.
I'll have enough hand-ties for the next 18 years! If you add my meager plastics collection, I'm set for at least another 25 years.
And even then I won't have made a dent in the powder paint, feathers, flash, etc that's in my tie-box.
I need a 12-step program. banghead
Oh, by the way, what's your favorite color powder paint?

Sapphire Blue is my favorite color for jigheads. Sounds like you are hooked...lol

See how many you have if you pour your own!!! I bought a whole bunch of new colors of powder and I ran out of bare horse head jigs (had painted all the others) so I had to pour some more. Also did ball head, minnow, tube and pony heads.
this is from last Saturday

I also tie flies so have way more feathers than I'll ever use but we're all hooked LOL

Every now and then I see things in my box that haven't moved in a while, so I dig em out and list them on the personal classified ads here on CDC. Some of our non tying brothers are glad to get em and it makes room for more addiction satisfaction. Works for me.

Hey Fatman, I saw that photo in your original post and thought "wow, that guy's got it bad!"
Nice to know I'm not the only one who is tying more than he'll ever use. I'll give away a bunch of them but there really aren't many crappie fisherman around here; on my homelake most are after bass and northern pike and they use baits that are about the size of my tackle box.
And thanks for the color recommendations banghead

Ruby Slipper is awesome. So is Junebug and Emerald Shiner, all of which you can get (1oz) for a good price at crazy angler.

I've been pouring since my Uncle got me going with helping him and later it was me pouring for him and his buddies. Ah the good ol days. I've been pouring over 35 years so yeah I got it bad, but it's just too much fun and cheaper than buying them. My first Do-It 1/8 and 1/4 oz mold cost me a whopping $13!!!!

As to the paints, we always like to tie some on a bare head, but don't like em as well once they oxidize. I found a Pro tec paint called Pearl Pepper that looks real good and is very close to the bare head. He also sells one called baitfish that is clear with a fine glitter that will also do the same thing. The pearl looks awesome as a second coat over pink and flame orange. I can't describe it, but maybe I can show a pic when I get home. Started with the brush tapping thing too and that opens up a bunch of doors too. I pour mine too so I got lots to practice on.

I did a little brush-tapping but my results were much less consistent than I expected. Now I'm looking for an extremely fine mesh screen to make a "sifter". If you've ever seen how a sifter spreads powdered sugar on a baked desert you'll understand the idea. It releases the powder very evenly and where you want it.
I figure I can form the mesh into a 1/4" cup and sift it right over the powder paint bottle.

Well don't feel bad as I just pour over a 100 heads yesterday and have tied up over 12 dozen in the last week. I am now up to 18 jig boxes. At least 10 of them with the same pattern but different size and heads. I give away more than I ever fish so it is no big deal. A great hobby to occupy my time. Better than chasing pretty girls and a lot cheaper to.
As far as my favorite color of powder paint. Well that's tuff this week it was Galaxy Black But I seem to have three others that I keep reordering on a regular basis. Copper vain, Neon Pink, Chartreuse Green. Must admit that I have a drawer fill with Powder paint but these four color are the ones that I seem to be my go to colors.

Favorite color is Copperhead. Works for dozens of patterns and make an awesome spinner blade color.
As for the extra on top of extra jigs, fish a little more and get into those spots where you know there are fish but have been afraid to go lose jigs.

i would have to say green pumkin w/ red glitter powder paint by pro-tec so easy to do and a slow lite bake makes rock hard and last
