will a sandisk sdhd 8gb card work in this unit.
cancel this--answered in another post(i guess im too excited about the new unit)
If the card has a write protect switch, move it up and down a couple of times. Be sure to leave it in up position. Up being toward the contact pins.
yeah--it was up--getting frustrated now--I guess I should get a new card--what type do you recomend
Format the card then reinstall update try again before you spend money.
I have the Sandisk Extreme III 4gig. Never filled it up with records or snapshots. Had it in a HB997 and now HDS8.
Speed is kinda important when taking snapshots. The higher the SD speed, the faster the snapshot record time, the less the screen is frozen during snapshot record.
Let’s test the SDHC memory card you have now before you go and buy another one. We need to make sure that the unit will write to and read from the memory card without problems. An easy way to check this is by making a Screen Snapshot. The boat does not have to be in the water for this. After making the Screen Snapshot go to the Snapshot and Recording View and see if you can view the image you just made. If you can than the unit has successfully wrote to and read from the memory card. Of course if it does this it should work for the software update…
If it worked for the above, try formatting the memory card using the HumminbirdPC program (right click on the SD card icon and select to fully format the memory card), than download a fresh copy of the software update file to it from the Humminbird web site and try it again.
If it fails, try a new SD memory card. We recommend the SanDisk brand but any size SD or SDHC memory card will work.
I use the SD.org formatter. Sandisk is a board member of this organization. The SD .org has hundreds of manufacturer as members. You do what you want.
I saved a few waypoints, and recordings to two separate cards-my original and a 4gb ultra. Both are formatted fat32. I was able to see the recording numbers R002, R003, R004. I think I saw the playback on them (need to read more on it) so now the problem is when I download the file and try to move from my downloads to the sd card I get the message that it can't read the source file. the file that downloads is 8befc3735382412c968a6857328531c1.bin
So what now? Seems my cards are good since the unit writes to them. And the funny thing is I moved the file to the card last night. Thanks in advance.
Waypoints do not get saved to the SD card unless you perform an Export function.
Make sure that you did see the Sonar Recordings play back. You can check this with your boat on the trailer. The connections to write to and read from the SD cards are different connections, so you need do make sure you can read from the memory card. If you cannot than the problem is in the SD card reader in the 597ci HD DI unit and it will need to be returned to Humminbird. If not, than maybe there is something wrong with the file you downloaded. Send me a direct email and I will make sure that you get the right one sent back. If you get it to me before 4:00PM (Central Time Zone) I will make sure and send it out before I leave today.
When you said: “so now the problem is when I download the file and try to move from my downloads to the sd card I get the message that it can't read the source file.”, are you trying to open/use the file or just move/copy the file? All you need to do is copy it to the SD card.
Greg--just got off the phone with HB and all is now fixed. I went through all of the above you mentioned last night (3 times) still didn't work. I also purchased the navionics hotmaps just to make sure the reader would read it (needed it anyway) and it did (went through it with the lady on the phone) I made mention of the card I was using. She said teh 8gb card probably wouldn't work (it didn't) and said the 4gb might (it didn't) and mentioned it was a SDHC card--she said it should be only SD only-and NO MORE than 2GB--I happened to have a 512mb straight SD card--loaded the file--put it in the unit and no problems. Just surprised the issue would be the SDHC. I did notice that the formatting was just FAT and not FAT32 (that was the real issue I think) but thanks to your input and HB customer service I am set (and very please by the way) Thank you so much for your help. I am sure I will have some "stupid" questions soon.
