We caught about 50 and brought home 24 between 10-13 inches. Nice plump fish. Started off spider rigged as usual and just bumped the trolling motor along. When they stopped biting, I speeded up to 1-1.5mph. They were scattered in 6-10 ft of water a bit on mixed color jigs with shiners. Water temp was in low 50's.

CF, As fast as I was going, I'm sure the baits were only 2-3 ft down. We were afraid that Isabel had ruined the creek as there was a major fish kill there from the hurricane. But surprisingly, it seems better. At least for the size of the fish. We used to pick up a few raccoon perch there this time of the year, but none so far.Quote:

Right now I plan on going sometime in Jan. or Feb. but I probably could work something in for March if my plans don't hold. I was thinking of maybe hiring a guide for one day there because I don't know jack about the lake other than I have a fairly good chance of catching a wall hanger there. Where do you stay at there and where do you fish?
There have been some nice specks caught in Pembroke creek lately. Catchen um shallow over deeper water. Pretty much the same thing your doing.
Only got a couple days of cotton picking to do before we finish and move to Soybeans. I hope the weather holds. Good Luck. CF
CF, We stay at a place called the Little Retreat. Its at the northern end of the lake just south of Clarksville. Scott, the owner has been chargingthe 4 of us $400.00 and that is for 5 and sometimes 6 days. It is really in a remote area on the lake and has all the conviences of home. We fish mostly in Buffalo Creek but try others at times. Always ready to try something new. Personally, I've caught several over 2lbs there and missed some I know were bigger because I was using fiberglass cane poles with no reels. I've recently changed that. I also caught some 2-3 lb white bass there. Talk about good eating. Here is a link to the Little Retreat. CF, l always use corks. I start with the cork about 6 ft up with the jig an the bottom and sinker 12 to 16 inches up from that. I always sit in the front because my partner's legs won't let him operate the trolling motor for too long. Many times I have I have seen it where I would be catching fish and he couldn't even get a bite and then it would turn around. I never have figured that one out. I've recently been experimenting with slip bobbers and using a stopper above and below it about 2 feet apart. My theory is that when bumping along, it will give the bait a up/down jigging motion. So far I don't think it helps that much.
