Hello,
I can't catch crappie. I am however pretty good with some of today's electronic gadgetry. I have a HB SI 997. If you would like to see how one of these work or if you have one you would like to better understand then I would be willing to show you in trade for some on the lake tips on finding and catching crappie.

Above is an example from today. I found this tree at the right depth that looked like it was holding fish. I tried by had no luck. When I came back by another boat was fishing the spot, so I must have been on to something.
welcome to the board, what style/method were you using?? Might have been the wrong color of lure, etc. How were the other guys fishing the tree??
Welcome aboard...Crappie are "fickle" fish. One day they bite like crazy, the next they don't. If you're in Knoxville, your best lakes will be Ft. Loudoun, Tellico, and Douglas. Watch the forum for tips and info about how they are being caught.
Thanks for the replies. I didn't really have a method. That is part of my problem. I tried jigging minnows. The other boat didn't look like they wanted me around so I can't say what they were doing.
I was at Melton Hill. I get lost in Ft Loudoun and Tellico, but if you could narrow it down to an launch area I could try that.
I usually catch bass and bluegill so that is the style I am use to. I would even know how to start trolling. I have fabricated a rod holder for my boat were I can hold up to eight rods.
Rasor Landing at Notchy Creek on Tellico, Ball Play on Tellico, Georges Creek on Ft Loudoun, Turkey Creek on Ft. Loudoun, Ish Creek on Ft. Loudoun, Davis Creek and Lost Creek (WMA) on Norris, Flatt Creek, Muddy Creek, Nina Creek, McGuire Creek, and Indian Creek all on Douglas. German Creek on Cherokee, Bull Run Creek, Beaver Creek, Turkey Creek, and Hope Creek on Melton Hill are good places to try. Bobby Garlands Baby Shad are pretty hot right now. Ive been doing pretty good with the Bluegrass and Arkansas Shad colors. I also tip them with Crappie Nibbles. I look for submurged brush and Stumps in the Creek Channels and laydowns off the bank. Trolling Curltail Grubs around the Creek Channels also produce very well (.7 to .9 M.P.H. are good Trolling Speeds). If you like to bank Fish any the bigger Crappie are starting to move in to the Lock Area below Ft. Loudoun Dam, Yesterday Evening I caught 23 with 9 keepers and 4 of them where over 14". I used a minnow under a float at 9" deep with an extremely slow retrieve. Good Luck Catching while you are Fishing

you can catch crappie using your bass/bluegill techniques/styles, just use lighter tackle (light action rods, 1/16 jigs, maybe larger/smaller jigs, 4-6 lb line) cast over the structure and draw 'em out with the lure or hit 'em in the head with it sometimes. Lures can be hair/maribou jigs, tipped with minnows, or tubes, grubs in the 1-2" size, can tip any of the plastics with live minnows or plastic minnows, try different things just like you do for bass/bluegill. if you have a light action rod for bluegill, that will work. On Tellico try southern pro grubs in black/chart combo, that's what worked for me last yr, but I longline/troll 99% of the time.

I don't live or fish East TN but where 411 goes by Loudon there is an old roadbed and a bunch of floating docks that caught my interest. I would have to go over that a while.
