Question

What is the best rod, I have reels, to use, I am not so new to crappie fishing but being in the military I am in Missouri where I can fish for them now, I was stationed at Fort Lewis, Wa and the crappie fishing was not so good up there, the trout was awesome though. I would like to know how long of a rod to use and all of that stuff that goes with it. I can't afford a lot for a rod, having a new son three weeks ago. Thanks for any information.

Much of your answer is going to be in the kinds of lakes you'll be fishing. For instance, my home lake has very little structure so a long jigging pole would be pretty useless; on other lakes it would be the best rod. I recommend posting in the Missouri forum and name the specific lakes to see if anyone can offer advice. I'm a big proponent of keep it cheap and simple, so my first inclination is to use what you've got - unless your gear is heavy duty muskie rods. Do you have a Medium Light, Light or UltraLight rod? If so, just use that strung with 4-8 lb line (again, depending on what the locals tell you about the most productive styles of fishing your lakes).
