Doing trees now, gonna build some later...

I've been lurking in the structure section and I'hatm trying to get some ideas on how to do this. I have a bunch of small trees I cut down in my yard and I'm gonna drag them out and dump them in a spot or two that is 15 ft deep. The tree tops are all about 5-6-ft long. I'm basically gonna tie the end to a concrete block and drop it over the side Probably gonna do a couple of spots about 20 yards apart and about 5 trees each.

In the future I'm gonna build some of those bad boys I see on this site with the cement in the pots. I'm wondering how you make sure they stay upright when you drop them over. I can see lowering them with a rope, but you lose the rope. Is that all part of it? I'd like to put a big "cross" in the bottom of the pot to keep it stable and upright and I've seen some picks there. I have access to a bunch of used, black, hard irrigation tubing that is about 1" in diameter that would work well. Don't know how tall to make them for the 10-15 ft of water though, but 5' seems reasonable to me. I don't want to make something that my bait will get hung up on all the time. I guess the trees would be bad about that....

This section is very cool.

5' sounds good, that way it will still be out of site when the lake drops in summer/fall. Haven't noticed problems with tipping when using pvc. What you have access to sounds perfect. Free is best! I am using more cinder blocks now. Shouldn't tip. Put your material in the two holes, pour in concrete. Alot of weight in a rectangular package. I have access to 55gl plastic drums, going to make a stump field out of them. Drill holes in the sides, put limbs/pvc through the holes. Or just leave holes empty. Let your imagination run!!

Why would you loose the rope lowering them? There is no need to loose it. Some bend metal rods over, that are in the cement, lower it down, then just pull the rope back up. If buckets, leave 2 holes across from each other, run rope thru both holes. If your sinking in 15' of water, and have a rope 50' long, you put it thru the holes, and then match it up with the other end of rope, and once on bottom leave go of one end, and pull the rope up.

I have never used ropes. When you throw the structure over into the water. It acts like and arrow. The Baboo, PVC, or what ever acts as the feaather on an arrow. The cement bucket is the first thing to hit the ground, and stands up, unless it is top or side heavy, and the even a rope will not help. This is how we make our, except now we leave the smaller limbs on them, but these are easier to see what and why they go down like an arrow. Never have used a rope.

Nice. I wish I could get my hands on some free bamboo.

Works on anything. Baboo, PVC, Boards, Christmas trees. Whatever. The bucket act as the head of the arrow, and whatever you have in it acts as the feather. Only thing that effects it, is if it weights heavy to one side, then it will fall over due to the weight.

Just stuff from the yard. Crepe myrtles, a tulip poplar, a maple, and a couple of small oaks. All these trees were pretty small, and the ones that were like 10' I cut in half. Haven't put them in the pond yet.

I am looking for some cheap 5 gallon buckets..
