10 or an 11, remember to hold one hand on the line and the other on the pole. You can raise your ine up and down and plce the jig where you want it. Another good tip is to wax the pole, you may need Tman's help with this, that way the wet line wont stick to the pole.
Use 16'..
i use a 9 1/2 ft !!
for me far enough to reach them from the bank.........Rofl
Whats gonna be funny is when he sticks that jiug up under some limbs and hooks one, now trying to figure out what to do with it now that he has it hooked, he figures out the the best thing to do is "shuck" the pole backwards as to be able to get his fesh. In the process of "shucking" the but of his pole makes contact with his styrofoam cooler bursting it into a million little white pieces. Still "shucking' frantically he reaches for his fesh only for it to roll over coming loose from his jig and swin away. Now, here he stands, half empty vodka bottle floating along with his carefully packaged samwiches and 2 bags of chips, no crappy, wet samwiches only to realise that the top has come off his bottle and his vadka bottle is now again full and resting on the bottom of the lake.
What time I need to meet ya DD, I got to see this!!!!!!!! RoflRofl
thats a classic John bwahahahaha
Yeh yeh john. You just dont know how prepared i go. I pack each sammich in a ziplock bag then pack both of then in a gallon ziplock bag. Btw thats alcohol abuse n sacraledge you talking bout spilling vodka man. You should be ashamed of yoself. Lol. Dat was purdy good though. Ill give ya dat
I want an honest report Saturday afternoon on how prepared you are. Without aid of a fourwheeler or a boat you better travel lite. If you wade for two hours solid your legs will be tired. Have fun, thats the main thing, too if you find some fish stay rite there with em. Had a freind murder em over there last year and they came out of 2 holes so once you find some fesh hang tite and catch em. Dont forget what Torch told ya, wade into the wind, some of the best wading advice ever given.
Thanks john. One thing is with 26 years of martial arts my legs are stronger than most so i should be able to go as.long as i want without getting worn out. Appreciate all the advice guys
9-10 foot DD, if you need one to try let me know and I will bring you one.
Hey DD.. Used to fish Tunica a bunch with 11' rod and in those trees a buddy showed me a handy Lil automatic reel... Martin made em... Great Lil tool when you under a bunch of willow limbs.. Saves a lot of time fishing yo jig out the tree when you set the hook
try the popel pocket fisherman
after you buy me lunch by the way...hehehe
Tman. Remember the 10 foot rear seat cork handle b n m i got at big buck when they were closing?. Thats what i got rigged up with some freshly painted n cured 1/8 oz red sickle jigs. Painted 15 in orange this evening
DD it dont matter how long, because you will always want it a couple inches longer( that is NOT what she said) to hit that top a little out of reach. Also you want a pole that is balanced. What I mean by balanced is your hand needs to be the fulcrum of the lever. It helps me fish longer because I am short and have to hold the rod between elbow and shoulder height for most fishable water.
I have never heard of the wax job, but it makes sense and I plan on trying it.
I agree with fishing the wind but some times its more important to watch current direction if you fishing ditches and creeks. As you walk you will be kicking up debris and the current will carry it ahead of you if you not careful. It will spook your fish.
I use a 10 ft pole wading.
I tried the wax job one time. Hurt like the dickens hehe
Break down your 8ft and strap it to your float. Try it you'll like it in tight.
Get you one of them cheap little dip net that they use for trout fishing. The kind you can clip on your waders and it has an elastic cord inside the handle. It will save you a lot of time and trouble when handling fish.
Beat piece of advice of hard learned advice I can give you is that when wading:
There is always, always, always more than one fish there when you catch one. Don't assume you caught the only fish on a particular stump. Force yourself to fish that stump or whatever for at least 5 more minutes before moving on and preferably 10. That fish was there for a reason, not haphazardly. And if you caught him there, either he will have company or you can leave it and another fish will take its place. I'm very, very inexperienced at wading an even I have caught 11 fish while standing in the same boot tracks.
Second thing: sometimes, the stick and hold is what they want. A Dead still jig will on occassion tick off a crappie intent on spawning that spot while with a moving jig, they'll hunker down and let pass.
Wannabe...
DD get you a 20 ft 5 section BnM. You can stand a long way back. Just kiddin I like a 10 to 11 ft pole.
I painted up some jig heads last night and was going through my box and found some skirts that a fella on Grenada gave me at the ramp last year. This ought to be one heck of a combo for jigging. LOTS of movement in this skirt with very little twitching the rod tip. I'm determined to learn to jig fish this year. I've really never done it so when ya'll talk about the thump, I've never really had that hapen. I've put a rod in each hand and slow trolled in the winter just so I could feel when they were hitting it cause it was so light but never had one try and take the rod out of my hand like I hear about
Your going to need a bigger board . Put you a hand full of body's in your pocket . Let your regular ole fish string drag be hind you . Bottle of water in your pocket . You will either catch them and not worry about food or drink or be back at the truck before you get thirsty .
Shaddup Minner! Or better yet come buy me lunch
ain't but 1 pocket in my waders and it's on the inside front. That's the problem. I've got a 12 foot long salt water stringer with a float on it Ima use to atleast keep the snakes back a few feet so I can smak em with my walking stick. LOL
One of them fishing shirts with a bunch of pockets will be handy too.
Another tip, dont know what kinda reel you are gonna use something along the line of a Zebco ultra lite with a button on the back. I remove the button as to not bump it when I get a fish on. Most have a switch that will release the spool and let it wind backwards letting out line and then lock back once the desired line is out. When you are fishing cover and have to shuck your pole back seem like that button will get bumped alot.
