There's really not a lot of difference between them. Buy from a store that will give you good service if you have a warranty issue. Minn Kota, Guest, Dual-Pro, NOC, Promariner are all good chargers. If you are trying to save money, go with the Cabela's or BPS chargers. They are Promariner products.
I really need to buy one too. I'd prefer one that's 50% off of retail. :cheers2
I don't know about the best, but my Bass Pro Shop XPS has been a good one. It's 12-13 years old and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if this one fails.

My only experience is with a Cabela’s brand which after about three years only charges two banks.
Had one of the first XPS units they came out with and it lasted until last year and it was my fault it Di'ed. Bout a new 5/5 about 2 weeks ago and it quit the second time I used it. They didn't have any more so they let me have the pro mariner 6/6 for same price I paid on sale for the other one. It seems to be working fine. When the other XPS quit I had sever email and phone conversations with pro mariner and were great to work with.
Cabelas units are same as pro mariner just have their name on them and on sale along with XPS.
I use Promariner and have got good service out of them and they have replaced one that was out of warranty.Good customer service.
Bass Pro XPS-mine is a year old and runs 24/7 with no issues and fast recovery. It's made by ProMariner and is a lot lighter than my MinnKota which crapped out right after the warranty period ended.
Bass Pro XPS they stand behind there unit long after the warranty is dead and gone. I have the Pro Sport 20 Plus. Made by Pro Mariner
if purchasing a 2 or 3 bank charger, what amps should I look for or does it matter. I don't fish back-to-back days so charging time will have a couple days in between fishing times
If you charge your batteries slow, that will keep the heat down in the battery and they will last longer.
I have a dual 4/4 on my boat. The start battery should be near charged and the charger will put more current in the trolling battery.
I have run the trolling battery (group 31) low and it always will be recharged overnight.
Second BP XPS charger I have had, first one sold with a boat and this one is going on 3 years.
While that is generally true, the heat isn't an issue in most situations until you get well over 20A. In many conditions, you could charge your batteries at 40A with no problem, but not in hot weather or a confined compartment.
15A is well withing the range of safe charging rate. IMO anything less than 5A is too small and will struggle with large batteries as they get older.
I have a 3 bank 5/5/5 XPS charger and it distrubutes the remaining unneeded amps to the bank that has the lower charge. Very fast recovery times and my batteries are very healthy thus far.
I've owned about every charger make. In my new Lowe I found battery compartment space at a premium. The Guest fit nicely. I went with 5/5/5. Plenty of power for overnight recovery if needed. And its half the size and power of the minnkota. Lot less cost as well.
I've got a guest. Not sure if it's the best but it works for me.
I have an aluminum war eagle boat and space is limited. I have a hatch cpover in back which covers the cranking battery and gas tank, would it be safe to place in there or do I need to think about different location to mount?
All the multi-bank chargers are engineered to be safe. That is, they are really sealed nicely, they produce very low head discharge and once installed the normal ventilation from your vents should allow them to run cool and safe. The big deal is to make sure the lugs are down tight on all leads and that will prevent any arking . You should be able to mount anywhere in the box.
I just installed a Minn Kota 315D. It is big and heavy. Weighs 14 pounds.
Been doing this a long time..My preference is Dual-Pro..
Hey Don, does that unit produce a lot of heat? I'm worried about putting that in in back of boat with hatch covering battery and gas tank........

Tom, I have used the RS-1 & the RS-3 with no heating problems..I also had the Pro Series 3 bank when I had the Bass Cat with no problems..

Here you go xring. May take him a day or so to get back. Give him the model and serial. They go by manufacture date if you dont have a receipt.
Tommy i just installed mine in a 754Vs wareagle. Very little room. Cut a peice of 3/4 plywood a little longer than charger and just a tad wider. mounted charger with 1/2in spacer under each screw for circulation. Wire tied power cord and charge wires together every 6in for about 2ft then covered that portion plastic split cover and taped it. drilled 2 holes in frot of board for sheet metal screws. mounted it with cable end to rear of boat and lites to front where i could see them, and to the crank battery side.
Minn Kota Digital. I sell lots of em!!

I hope I didn't hijack thread asking these questions specific to my boat- if so didn't mean to. I will try to post pick in another thread of my rear hatch and get yall's opinion to be double safe on my intended mounting location

dual -pro is best I have ever used. Been using them since 2000 without missing a beat. I buy walmart batteries and they have lasted 5 yrs. each(trolling).just replaced second set this week since 2000.
I forgot to mention that I have this charger in a 20.5 ft.bass boat. I fish alot of tourneys and have to have something dependable. only charger I have ever owned.
Only problem with the MK220 digital I have is I wish it were 3 bank now but oh well.
I have a dual pro 2 bank and minnkota 3 bank on my big boat. I have Dual Pro 2 bank on my jon boat. Never had problems for any of them, but I take good care of my stuff, like keeping the cables clean from oxidation and corrosion. Proper maintenance makes a difference.
Well said "Canepole"!
Dual Pro ! Best it is. Buy one and done.
I'd say your right. i bought a BPS for my jon boat. A 2 bank charger. It last just about 1 1/2 yrs. That's what I get for trying to go with something different than my dual-pro's. (3 bank charger)Although you can get bad product anywhere. I have had 2 different dual-pro's for more than 10 years each with no problem. The one I have right now is almost 13 yrs.old. Have only gone through two sets of batteries on it also.
