Thanks for the link i bought one yesterday and it saved me several bucks.
Ordered one today, thanks.
What is the difference in this one and the 597 di?
I'm not familiear with this unit, but that sounds like it didn't come with the GPS antenna.
The 587ci HD DI Combo was a Black Friday special made for certain retailers that has shown enough interest that HB "may" consider adding to the lineup...
Retailer's descriptions are not written by HB (and only vaguely copied from HB verbiage)...
One should always be cautious and not rely 100% on retailer's descriptions...
"Combo" means GPS Chartplotting with included GPS antenna (some units internal antenna-with an "i" designation in a "Combo" unit.... some units extenal antenna- with no "i" designation in a "Combo" unit)...
I think HB does make a unit that has GPS with no chartplotting but I cant seem to find the HB designation for that offering right now... I seem to remember Greg saying it showed waypoints on the screen... But not overlayed onto a map... Kinda like the view on some of the cheaper handheld GPS brands with no maps...
Maybe Greg will add (or correct) some of this ...
The only difference I can see is the 4.5 inch diagonal screen on the 587 vs the 5.0 diagonal screen on the 597...

The display pixel count, size and backlighting are the only differences between the 587ci HD DI unit and the 597ci HD DI unit.
We also have a 596c HD DI which is basically the 597ci HD DI model minus the GPS. It is a Trackplotter and as Rickie stated: “showed waypoints on the screen... But not overlayed onto a map... Kinda like the view on some of the cheaper handheld GPS brands with no maps...”. It does not come with a GPS Receiver at all, so you would have to purchase one to connect up to it or connect one that you already have.
Following the link above it can be seen, that this is not a "DI" unit, this is just a 2D sonar:

Vik,
Your wrong. I just got mine last week and it is DI. As said above it was a black friday special run. The box says free DI on it and it in fact is DI.
Please have a closer look - there is no any signs that this is a DI on its body. Yes, the price is much lower, but the initial price still was for regular 2D sonar. If they installed DI transducer, the angles should be 16 and 25 degrees, not 20 and 60.

That picture is wrong. On mine where it says 587ci HD below it it says down imaging instead of fishfinder. I know what I got and I know its a good deal. The box is the regular 587 box and it has a sticker onh it that says free down imaging. I would take a picture but I am too lazy.
I am sorry, I missed this thread :( I am dreaming of buying Humminbird 385 ci DI, 3.5 ", $499, but that one looks much better :)
I have just checked Amazon ( I bought my 570 DI in it) also sell 587 DI ($449). They mentioned about 16 and 25 degrees, but regarding SD card they are talking about map records only,( sonar records?). May be this is just a poor description.
Always be wary of retailers descriptions...
Retailers do not always use correct info/pictures for the item...
Retailers definitely do not copy HB specs word for word...
Try to talk to a human at the place you are looking to buy from and have them read the specs right off the box...

I looked through the Manual for 587ci HD, and it has ability to make sonar recordings and keep them on SD card. I hope that this option was not removed from 587ci HD DI :)
