Guess, we will find out tomorrow at 2:00
Find out now..... I'm looking at it.

dead link
BPS is having a pretty good sale on the 798 starting Friday in my neck of the woods. I figured they must be ready to discontinue.
We'll see what's next...
Apparently the link was open a very short time and then went dead. It is a rotating transducer on a talon looking rig. Some features are control the deploy from the HB unit, limit scan degrees between 10 - 360 degrees, lock the direct to front, back or either side, and of course standing still SI like images.
It's this:
Humminbird® 360 Imaging
360° Imaging rotates and scans areas virtually impossible to touch with other types of sonar
Creates a 300-ft. circle of detection around your boat
Target fish hideouts with surgical precision
Four beam speeds and adjustable 10°-360° sweep areas
Split-screen views with SwitchFire or GPS cartography
Near-silent Transducer Deployment System
Compatible with: 798c, 898c, 998c, 1198c units
Revolutionary 360° Imaging scans underwater places that are virtually impossible to see with conventional sonar. It produces a 150-ft. beam that sweeps in every direction to create a 300-ft. circle of detection around your boat, letting you see fish all around you without moving over them (1.6 acres of total coverage). The imaging beam sweeps the surrounding water and detects fish, underwater structure, rocks, terrain changes and more – helping you target fish hideouts with surgical precision that would remain hidden to other sonar devices. Four beam speeds and adjustable 10°-360° sweep areas let you fine tune the system and isolate specific areas for maximum detail or faster returns. The lower beam speeds scan slower and more thoroughly to produce better-quality images, while the higher beam speeds deliver faster refresh rates. The adjustable sweep area lets you adjust the beam sweep between 10°-360° in any direction, or choose one of four preset sweep settings that scan fore, aft, port or starboard with a 180° arc. Mark important returns with a waypoint and keeping track of productive fishing spots with the GPS on your Humminbird unit (select units only). Split-screen views also let you see 360° imaging with SwitchFire™ sonar or GPS cartography. Adjustable beam sensitivity for adapting to varying water conditions. Choose from eight color palettes for easy viewing. Adjustable image sharpness for clearer resolution in different light conditions. The 360° Imaging Transducer Deployment System silently lowers the transducer below the hull and prop for unobstructed views at every angle. The transducer can be deployed with easy-to-use buttons on the Transducer Deployment System housing or by using the controls on your Humminbird fish finder unit – and it’s adjustable to prevent grounding and fish shallower depths. Requires an Ethernet-ready, Side Imaging®-equipped Humminbird fish finder (not included). Older side imaging units will need a software update.

I am not suprised. I saw some similar images on xumba web pages several years ago. Looks like HB perfected the process. Good.
Hmmm....looks like a bigger donut to me. :)
Wannabe...
Images look cool. I can see where a guy could put that to good use! Price and the fact that there's a million stumps in my lake that would eat that drop down ducer within 5 minutes would keep me from getting it. 1198 and this thing would be deadly! And will cause some divorces, I'm sure. rotfl
mduncan62, If you don't have to be moving to see 360 degrees underwater, wouldn't you see the stumps and raise the TD before hitting it. The 2K price is crazy for an add on, I know you lowrance guys are used to paying for add on's but HB users are not. LOL, LOL.
IF you had to raise and lower it every 30 seconds, it would defeat the purpose. I'd like to see deep water performance videos. 2K is no small fee for an add-on.
Good to hear of HB's 360 degree scan Kudos to them. Like to hear of good competition between HB & Low as we are the winners in the long run....................
Now if they would just have a price war we would be set
When they fire up the rebates, well, you know you gonna get hosed-kinda one way or another.
ive always believed that di used to locate shallow water fish around structure was a bad ideal .this new technology that humminbird has,in my opinion will be a real game changer in the way anglers will approach shallow water structure and fish. way to go humminbird
So, the 798 won't be compatible because it's not ethernet capable?
I see a lot of HB talk from customers saying they'll do what they've always done, scan through, mark, and fish. Still can't get over the fact that this thing has to be lower than the boat. Imagine Truman, reelfoot, any lake with standing timber, it'll be ugly to say the least.
I'd like to see that 360 and GPS split screen. Anyone the boat indicator has anything to do with heading, or just the position vs what's being shown?
Rofl you no ,come to think of it i kindof agree with you.this looking out in front of were your going is a bad ideal.i bet keven vandam is really pissed off noing that humminbird going to want him to use this thing so he will have to see all thous bass out in front of his boat before he runs over them and spooks them .hell im pissed now thinking about it.(well only one thing for me to do.pour another cup of coffee and have a donut)Rofl
I'm going to stay on topic. My post was about the product. I got an email from HB about it. can you hook it to the DI unit that you use on your TM?
fish smarter with a fully loaded humminbird
To get the detail and unprecedented coverage of Humminbird 360 Imaging, you'll need an Ethernet-ready, Side Imaging-equipped Humminbird fishfinder. Compatible models include:
1198c SI Combo | 998c SI Combo | 898c SI Combo | 798ci HD SI Combo
this is just what i would do.i would not lower it deeper than needed for the direction that i would be using . which for me would be strait ahead or to one side about 45 degrees. they probably will send a dummy proof manual with it for people like youRoflRofl(you deploy it from the unit your using)
Class act. You can deploy it from the transducer housing also.
I guess when I said not long ago "What will they think of next", I got my answer today. I got an email from HB announcing their new 360 degree imaging up to 300' out. My God a fish don't have a chance anymore...lol. Good for us I guess.
I can remember being excited about the Hummingbird Super 60 flasher in the late 70's. One never thought such things would be developed back then. The only thing left now is actual imaging in 3D I guess. What else can come along to see underwater?
Looks pretty slick to me but out of my price range.
How did we ever catch fish before the DI/SI and now the 360???
Sad day for all fishkind

Could one not to some degree do that with SI on TM if they turn it slow?
You can always get a plastic tube and "pretend". I already have the plastic. Would be kinda like one of them imation cameras. Who would know?
Before anyone gets too excited. From what I have read these overpriced transducers are not going to be available until August of 2012.
This kind of marketing ploy reminds me of some of the antics of gun manufacturers in the not so distant past. They would send a snazzy new model to every gun magazine writer in the USA. They would all rave about it and the average joe gun owner/collector would run down to local gun shop to buy one. Upon arrival average Joe finds out they are not ready to ship yet. This was done to preserve the MSRP to the point the gun often sold for more than the original MSRP due to the pent up demand from the consumer side.
I have been a big fan of Humminbird since Johnson Outdoors bought them and turned the company around. This marketing ploy and price point on this 360 technology leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Maybe P.T. Barnum was right.
Rickard and some others have been workin on this concept for some time now...
