Gas prices

With gas going UP and predicted to go up some more how will it affect your fish trips. My nearest lake is Norfork, it is 43 miles away, and even though that's not too far it's not a very good crappie lake. Each spring and fall I like to go to Millwood for a few days of crappie fishing. It is 175 miles from my house and with gas going up I will probably not go this year. I can make 6 trips to Norfork or Bull Shoal for what it will cost to go to Millwood. It is only 65 mile to Greers Ferry so I may have to invade Creek's territory. Will gas afefect ya'll fishing or will you just bite the bullet and go anyway.

I just got my mastercard statement for the month, as most of you know, I fish almost every day, or DID, until this statement..it will certainly limit my time fishing..and thats a tuff pill to swallow....especially for those of us on fixed income.
I just hope that the CEOs of the major oil companys can afford fuel for their jets...bless their little pea picking hearts..and not to leave out the speculators on gas futures...

prolly wont stop me from fishing any less but that dont mean i like it. its a shame that the gas ceo's own this country or so it feels. last time it went sky high we all took a hit!

I think someone just needs to step in and say enough is enough. We need a cap on gas prices because as you know, once it goes up it will not get too much lower again. As for me, I'm about to stop running all over the place trying to catch fish and wait until my main spot comes in and just go to work on them.

All it would take would be for the working class of people to stay home,,with the reason being, I can't afford gas to get to work..10 days and you could buy reasonable priced gasolene again.

If we could get rid of the speculators of ALL commodities, we would be doing a lot better.

No big deal I'm only 3.5 miles from the lake dardanelle boat ramp!! But I do believe we as a country need to be far less dependent on foreign oil !!

We're pretty fortunate here on Lake Nimrod that there is usually a ramp within trolling distance of good fishing. Father-in-Law used to put in at Carter Cove and start spiderrigging right out beyond the swimming buoys! I can't help it. I like to boat ride. On those days I'll use up 4 or 5 gallons in my old Mercury 35.

I'll just spend all my time on Ouachita or Hamilton. It takes me 12 minutes to get to the Crystal Springs boat ramp from my house and about the same for Hamilton. My little 70hp four stroke is easy on gas if I don't run it wide open all the time and I ain't see no crappie that could swim that fast anyway rotfl. These gas prices are ridiculous! Those big oil CEOs and execs keep getting their million dollar bonus for their record profits each quarter and we all pay out the nose. banghead

I am saving my pennys now for the Spring Camp. This gas price wont keep me down, its crappie fishing that makes me forget about everything and if I am going to get mad I might as well take it out on them crappie

I just made a big trip to White Oak today. There everywhere!!! Problem is all I seen them catching was bream.....I fished all up in that brush and drove an hour and half for nothing. Stopped by Arlie Moore on the way back and it was as usual, not a fish, not even a bite on the highly talked about Degray. I told my dad tonight we know over in OK we can catch crappie at anytime, why waste our time over here in AR for nothing. I filled the boat and truck back up this evening before I go off to work and gas goes even higher. I told my dad we will never see someone with enough pebbles stand up to these oil companies, its pitiful!

If gas goes up 70 cents, that's only 20 bucks more per tank to go fish. Who's gonna stop fishin for 20 bucks? Not me!!!

I feel your Pain Rough Neck and I live right by one of the best crappie lakes in the state, but i like to travel and fish new waters. I qualified for the Crappie Masters Classic last year in Alabama. My biggest reason for not going was Gas Prices. One good thing about gas prices is it forces you to find a fishing buddy and share your time on the water with someone who will help you with the expense if your going to travel. When I fish with someone and they drive and use thier boat I always help out with the Gas. One way to get on my bad side is not offer to help pay for gas if im traveling in my truck and using my boat and you dont even offer to pay a darn dime. Those guys dont get invited to fish with me agian.

Thanks C.P. like you I enjoy traveling long distance to fish new waters or a least get a change of scenery. This is why the gas price really affects me. I raise fruits and veggies and irrigate with a 2" gas pump, i use 1 gal. a day during dry weather which is usually a least 4 to 5 months a year. We forget about rice and bean farmers who often use over a 1000 gal of fuel a month and ranchers who consume large amount of desiel to cut hay. Food prices are already high and will get higher. I'm just glad me and my family don't ski, a ski boat with a V-8 can burn 40 to 100 gal of fuel a day. I will keep fishing, but maybe not quite as much and not so far away.

Like my buddy said this morning when he told me he had a choice between Greeson and Millwood (Little River). He said that Greeson is just like a Degray, Hamelton, Ouachita, ect. and you've been fishing them deep lakes with no luck and I know you know how to crappie fish so what would be any different me going to Greeson? He said I've yet to go down to Millwood and not catch a good mess of whites and usually end up with anywhere from a dozen to even 15 or 20 good crappie....I'd rather go where I know I can get into something down there than to spend all day on Greeson and end up like you've been skunked last several trips. I don't know anybody personally on this board so I can't speak for credibility of anybody here but to hear some talk all these lakes have good numbers of crappie? I've crappie fished all my life and growing up on lakes with limited numbers of crappie I know they ain't everywhere that's for sure. Then on top of that these oil companies kill the economy every year and our so called for the people government does nothing to stop the bleeding. I don't have much of a job but at least I do have one and mine allows me to have lots of time off to hunt and fish which I can't complain about but as most of you feel gas money is tight and endless trips to unknown water with no results won't work for me. Good luck to you all out there on the water this Spring, I've got 2 bags of fish laid out to cook this evening myself.

I heard on the radio that the HeDog oil exects are blaming it on the Iranians. I ain't going to let no loudmouth, goat loving, head chopping, dictator make me stay home.
Also heard about new oil in South Arkansas. Why do we want to stay hostage to these Aholes anywho? I know we don't have the refineries. Maybe it is time to get our heads out of our hineys and build some. Oh yes, I forgot. That is bad for our ecology. How long has it been since we built any refineries in this country? 30 years? 40? Hasn't technology gotten better since then. If not, then we need to return to the good old days. Let's build some refineries and start smoking and dipping snuff again; drinking whiskey and driving Corvettes and Boss 302's. I lived through all of that stuff before some dictator across the Ocean started mucking it all up.
Now; I feel a little better.

Nobody likes high gas prices. I found an app on my I phone for those who can download the apps on your phones. I know, I know I phones and apps are new to me too but listen to this one: It's called Gas Buddy and folks call in all across the country, it's like a map on your phone, give a location and use the + or - to move in closer or pan further out. It tells you where gas stations are, and more importantly how much they are for gas. I've planned my trip to Panama City tomorrow. My tanks full and the best deals on gas seem to be in Jackson, MS for my trip so I'll fill up there and then again about Mobile cause FL gas is always higher. So if you get the app on your phones, just plan up that fishing trip and schedule to fill the boat and truck at the cheapest place to save even more. Oh, and when using that cheaper gas don't forget the stabil fuel additive I've heard ethanol is terrible on boat motors.

I just buy stock in some of the oil companies and then when the prices are going up I at least have something to smile about.

Four stroke merc so I'm good. Lake is only 36 miles out. I do think has is crazy expensive but hey what can u do. After all we are turning into the communist states of America.

I live 1/4 mile from two launches on Greers Ferry so I'm not worried about it too much although every time I shove the throttle down on my little 2-stroke 60hp Merc I'll be thinking about all the gas it's drinking.

It seems we have as many opinions on who to blame as we have on ways to catch slabs. My take is we need to hold the oil companies accontable. Its their decision in light of a wamn winter year to export gasoline to China for the sake of profits. Seems like we've lost any sense of balance with the companies and the average working man. Profit is not a dirty word, gouging is. The next time it comes around, if the oil companies demand the right to make as much profit as possible, we should demand the right to quit subsidizing them.

Just rolled into Panama City tonight and gas here is like 3.60 already. I've seen it as high as 3.80 down here. I've got to fill up tomorrow before work I'm just hoping to catch 3.50 something and in hopes it will last me most of the job.

I know the feeling, xring. Checked my CC statement yesterday. My 800 mile round trip to the coast coast me $180.00 in gas, for 2.5 days of fishing. Will be more fresh water fishing and less salt water this year.

10.5 miles to the ramp another 4 to my spot on the river. Don't get to go that much so It won't stop me from going but it will limit my visiting other area lakes.
