Any plumbers on here?

Well since yall were so helpful with my electrical problem, I got another one for you. I got a water leak. It is either between my water meter and my house, or under my slab. I believe it is in front of the house but it is hard to tell since we have had so much rain and I am not real sure where my water lines run. It is leaking about 1 gallon a minute.

I believe they make acoustical meters to locate a leak... would all plumbers have this? Or should I just keep turning my water on/off until it gets dry enough to find the leak? Any plumbers on here that work in the Jackson area?

My water bill is going to be outrageous.. I didn't even know it was leaking till I got the notice from the water company. The yard is so wet I would have never noticed it..

Look in the front of your phone book. Should be a number to call about digging. They will come out and mark all your utility lines. Not all plumber have that specialized meter. A gallon a minute is a pretty good leak. Good luck.

Some utility companies will adjust one bill in situations such as this.

You not gonna believe me when I show you this vid but it DOES WORK and works well. We tried it a few years back with wire flags. We marked it and then went back and probed it with a probing rod. We were never more than 6 inches off. Yahoo! Video Detail for Using Dowsing Rods To Find A Water Line

LOL, nahhh, don;t call no one. may explain why when I actually do get sick, I stay sick for a long time. Telling ya, they work. I had to have it proven to me. What about pigeons that turn backflips in the midair? ya believe that?

I was building an above ground pool with a 36'x36' deck around it. I wasn't sure exactly where my septic tank was located, I knew it was probably in line with the vent on the roof of my house but wasn't sure. Someone that I know told me to cut 2 pieces of coathanger equal length and bend at right angle about 4" of the hanger. Hold it in a fist lightly and walk back and forth and when they cross that's your pipe. I'll be dang if it didn't work just like they said. I found the tank and leach lines so when I leveled off the area for the pool I knew I wouldn't hit any of them. That was pretty cool!

It seems every time I hear about coat hangers finding water lines; they always find lines you already know about where they are.

I became a lektrician because I absolutley HATE plumbing and painting!!!!!

Even if you find your waterline it ain't gonna help you find the leak unless you Plan on digging beside it until you find the leak. There is a place in Memphis called American leak detectors that have the equipment to listen for the leak. If it turns out to be under your house shoot me a Pm before you do a thing. Good luck. One other quick way is to find where your water line come into the house out in front and dig down and cut and cap it then turn your water on and see if your meter is still spinning. If it is your leak is between your house and the meter. If not its under the house. MS one call will only mark from the watermain in the street to the meter. They won't mark from the meter to your house.

If it's a water leak in your yard, plumbers usually want to replace the whole line. They figure whatever caused it will cause another one soon enough.

ATM is correct. And they won't guarantee their work unless they replace it all. Been there. Done that.

Thanks for the info guys... I am going to have to call someone tomorrow. Things got more interesting tonight!!!!!!!!!!! My wife turned the water on for a while to wash clothes.. I turned it off when I got home.. Well I walked in one room and the carpet was SOAKED!!!! Been soaking up water all night...

first thing...look at your water meter. it should have a a triangle or star wheel on the dial these are known as leak indicators.if all the water in the house is off and the leak indicator is moving then you have a leak running toilet or leak in the water line.second thing....find the cut off valve in the house and turn it off... then return to the water meter and check the leak indicator. if it is moving you have narrowed it down to between the house and meter good luck hope this helps

This leak has me baffled. I called a plumber this morning and he hopes to come by this evening or first thing tomorrow. With all the water cut off inside the house the leak indicator is turning like crazy. You don't have to look at the leak indicator on this one.. Just watch the big dial. This sucker is leaking faster than I thought.. I would guess 3-4 gpm. It is just weird how it just now showed up inside the house when it has been leaking for at least a week or two now.... It was leaking for at least a week before the water utility gave us the notice. I will let yall know what happens.. Thanks for the advice..

Good luck with it. I had one two years ago and they had to cut a hole 3 ft sq.in my breakfast room floor to fix it.
