Now for one the other way from Big. This is a 1/32 Oz. Jig with a Laced Rooster Soft hackle collar. I like it a lot and just want to see if anyone else likes it.
So what you say?

I must admit, I used to tie them with the collar, and I wasn't a fan of them as far as fishing goes, but they sure were nice to look at, and that one is no exception. Beautiful jig as usual Skip!
Are you talking flies of jigs? I could see where a fly may have a tendency to roll some, but think the jig with it's weight would help stop that part. I want to try some and since I like soft hackle flies and spider flies thought this may do well.
Thanks,
Skip
i love it skip i bin thinking bout trying some like that myself.
look good skip i like them collars!! tyed one for the swap with a collarAttachment 82177
I have a local guy who ties similar for me with the Black tips on the hackle part. I have found that I caught more of the finnicky fish when the hackles did not have the black tips on them. We added flashabou to the tails too (rainbow). Still a very nice tie, I'd just prefer no black in the hackle due to experience with it.

Very nice!!! Sometimes that fluttery neck hackle collar will help finickly fish bite. That's why trout guys use them.
Thanks guys!
Tim The Lippa. I have all kinds of hackle and colors that can be tied like this and most don't have the back tips. I can tie most any color they make in this style.
Thanks Fatman, I think this one will dance for sure. I also do some with longer hackles, but just really like this Rooster Soft Hackle like this.
Actually can't wait to try some using the Chickabou that comes on this kind of skin. I am sure you know what theta is, but for anyone that doesn't know it's like very mini marabou. I will post a pic of this kind of skin.

Love those collared jigs. I use to fish a lake in Wisc. for crappie and all we used was a locally made collared jig. Can't find it anymore. It had a brown head,wht/red eye, grey collar, brn body and blk feathers. Caught thousands of crappie on that jig. I think the collar is the key, lifelike quivering.
Thanks for posting your pics Skip. I was wondering whether or not anyone ever used hackle collars on crappie jigs. Hadn't seen any here.
I saw one where the hackle was wrapped candy-cane style around the chanielle body. It was very cool looking...but then again, I'm not eating it.
Thanks fishing nut, I think they will be very good too. I have made quite a few over the years for customers and they seem to like them a lot. I just had never used these feathers that are laced before and I like them too. The cool thing is I have some like these that are not laced and are silver speckled which I think will be awesome too.

If you can find a color in the same material, in white and red, or grey and red color to mimick gill flash it would be awesome! Nice jig!
Thank you!
Well the laced black part is the natural color and only the middle is up for dying different colors, but a red hackle would do the same thing and just be solid red. As for the grey and with I have both of them and actually the only thing different is the laced feather for the collar and it can be any color one wanted. You can even sue a lot of different types of hackle for that including but not limited to saddle hackle, cape streamer hackle, Hen hackle and many more.
