help with 997 and 957
got a couple questions for you side imaging guru's out there. i tryd out my 997 and957 for the 1st time today. and i have a couple issues. first thing i noticed was my 997 (transom mount) the side imaging looked streaky. the water column was kinda hazy and the bottom lookd fuzzy. i could still see things. but barely. anybody got any ideas? next. my 957 up front works good most of the time. but occasionally flickers different depths. up to 22 feet deep when we wer clearly in 10 foot of water. and then it would just stop for a while. and then start doin it again. and last i hav my interlink mounted up front by the puck and my 957 and hav the gps plugged in to my interlink. along with both units. but my gps wont work. no birds eye view, no marking waypoints. when i push mark. it says no gps available. what do i do?

I am no guru by a long shot but have a couple of ideas. First on the depth issue I would check the software version to make sure it's up to date. HB has done some software updates recently to address the shallow water issue. If it is up to date then try switching the setting from freshwater to saltwater. With the GPS issue I would try hooking the puck directly into the unit just to prove that it does work. If it then works you at least know that the unit and puck are good and the problem lies somewhere in the interlink system. Then check your menu settings to make sure you have told it to see the puck. I know with ethernet the unit needs to be told which puck it should use, not sure if interlink is that way also. I'm going to let someone with more knowledge than me try to help you with your SI problem.

Kenny has good advice about most of your other questions....
About the SI image....Can you post a screenshot of the SI in action...
If the fuzziness in the SI image is constant..it is probably a setting issue...transducer issue..software issue...
If the fuzziness in occasionally..it could be bubbles ..from turbulent water, prop wash..etc..bubbles make the SI image fuzzy or hazy..but generally clears up after the boat gets into other water that has no bubbles...
A screen shot of what you are seeing would be very beneficial...

The fuzziness is constant. I don't Have a way to get images on here yet. As far as the GPS goes. I tried hooking it up directly to the 957. But I have another Puck. So I will try it out tomorrow along with updating the software.

Try these settings...
SI sonar beam... 800kHz
SI Range...60-70ft
SI Chart Speed...match boat speed
Open "SI Enhance" from Xpress menu (1 "Menu" click)
Adjust these settings in SI Enhance...
SI Sensitivity... Up or down to adjust "brightness" of SI image
SI Contrast...10
SI Sharpness...Off
If you need help posting a SI screenshot... Just ask..

Kenny is right: check the software version in both units and make sure that it is up-to-date before going any further.
It would be best if you connect a GPS Receiver to each unit. Rickie this and let us know if it helps or not.
Rickie is right: we need a screen snapshot of what you are seeing to help diagnose the problem.

i appreciate all the help guys. i will try to get some screen shots tomorrow. i think i know how now. what i do need help with now is. i got the units updated. and set the 957 to external gps. and it workd. theni hookd it up to the interlink. and the interlink pop up came up. and said connected. then i went to my 997 and hookd up the interlink and it worked. then went back up to the 957 and the gps quit working. and cant find that external gps option anywhere. any ideas?

Sounds like it could be connector on back of unit on GPS? Both my 1198 and 1158 will show no signal if connector is not quite in all the way. It is always the GPS, Often times I have to push in on mine just a little as it is at a slight angle and not fully engauged on the GPS Plug. I Know this sounds simple and it is but ithas happened to me more than once

well i got gps to the 997 but not the 957. ima check all my connections then probly call humminbird to set my settings. i will post what i find out. thanks guys

See if anything here helps.
http://store.humminbird.com/media/do.../INTERLINK.pdf
Look at page 20 and 21...wonder if one of these options is what you selected because 2 of them ignore the interlink after initial data transfer until you power the control head back up.

well i went and looked at my accessory menu. and it says for th 957 that the interlink is on but the gps isnt. and the 997 says interlink is on along with gps temperature etc. so im thinking theres an option on there to switch to external gps. i remember seein it before and turnd it on. but it shut off or i shut it off or something. but anyhow now i cant find it. anybody know where its located?
-
well i finally got her figured out on the gps. i had to call humminbird. and they said to disconnect the "y cable" and i said whats a "y cable"? and she said thats probly your problem. so i dug through my box of junk and found it. problem solved. now im goin to try n get out soon and check out that side imaging. and see bout takin some pics for you guys. if i cant get that fuzziness to go away. ima try n make sum adjustments on the water to try n clear it up. supposed to rain the next 4 days. so we will see

Glad to hear you got it going. Figured it would be something simple. Just play with your settings and I bet you'll clean that picture up. Get the boat on the water and don't even think about fishing..just play and experiment...the time will be well spent. Have fun with your new toy!

So you now have an external GPS Receiver connected to the 957c unit and another external GPS Receiver connected to the 997c Si unit? This is the best connection option for your units and would require you to use the AS-YC Y-cable with each unit.
Post those Si pics.
