New to me boat has a toggle switch to power Fuel guage, Volt meter and Tach in dash. Keep forgeting to turn it off and have run down cranking battery a couple of times. Went to radio Shack and found 12V sealed led lamp and installed between tach and speedo, wired to toggle to be on with switch in on position. Now maybe even a Geezer can remember to turn off switch:yikesAttachment 80369

My master power switch light hasn't worked since I bought the boat. This is a great idea instead of fiddling with the OEM parts. Thanks!
I went with a stereo rather than a light, but I reckon either will work. :biggrin
that'll work! I know I would have left mine on a time or two if it wasn't for the lighted switch.
My lighted switch is out also.....good idea
Dutch, the light I bought is about the size of a dime. Completely sealed and come 2 to a pack for less than 3 bucks. They come with little spade connector pins but I just soldered on two wires then crimped on 2 small ring eyes to make my connection.Quote:

Larry....wire the light into the negative side of the switch.....that way when the switch is off the light is off.........take a meter and with the switch off read which wire is hot....then cut your other wire and place you light inline.
G, you talkin bout splice into the switch that is on the controls ? the boat has a fuel gauge, would it be safe to put the light in the circuit with it ? I notice the gauge is wired to come on when switch is turned onQuote:

The main power swith Larry.....some boats have them and some don't. My boat will start with it turned off, but none of my guages, aireators or ff's will work untill I turn that switch on. Most of them have a lighted switch but the lights in the switch are bad to go out and the light itself cannot be replaced......you have to replace the whole switch. So adding this light is a good idea and thats what I am going to do to mine. The light is just supposed to remind you to turn the switch off when you shut your motor down......cause if you don't you could run the battery down if something else was left on.

Larry, that is what i hooked mine to. I soldered a black and a red wire 18 guage to back of light then crimped on small Red ring eye connectors. Attached black to ground and red hot side of fuel guage. You will need to check back of guage for hot. Should have 3 connections hot, ground and one from sender unit. The light i used takes a 19/32 hole to mount. i drilled a 1/2 in hole and reamed out to fit with rat tail file. Check with your guys in parts and i bet they have somethig that would work just as well.Quote:
