I have one on mine. 50 amps
I put one on mine because Minn Kota recommended it. Hope its never needed but better to trip a circuit than fry something. U will love that Terrova 80.
Btw, I think it was recommended when by them when I got a MK 3 bank charger. 60 amps I believe.
better to trip the breaker than fry the boat and use the fire extinguisher
Ok guys, which one of these would be the better ?
Minn Kota trolling Motor CIRCUIT BREAKER 60 AMP 8360 | eBay

larry,u dont need a breaker if u send the terrova to me,lolrotfl
I have two 50 amp inline circuit breakers. One for each battery. Better safe than sorry they say. Over kill maybe, but I would rather protect the trolling motor than be broke down on a trip and not be able to fish. Good Luck
I use the 60amp manual reset shown here. Same as the Minn Kota. Both are made by Bussman. Only difference is the name printed on the unit. I deal with this company often.
Hi Amp Surface Mount - Manual Reset
You don't install a circuit breaker to protect equipment, they protect YOU. Its hard to get away from a fire when your in a boat.
went ahead and ordered the 60 amp one that is recommeded for the TM, thanks to all that help in the decision

I didnt buy the circuit breaker...instead use a 50A inline fuse.
Or,

I suspect circuit breakers are like batteries: lots of brand names but made by a just handful of manufacturers.
I also use the 60 amp manual reset breaker... As a matter of fact, I open the circuit everytime I'm thru fishing just to keep the voltage off the trolling motor...When I launch my boat I go to the back and pull the little lever up to reconnect it.
Mine has the smaller in size 50 amp auto reset versions. One on each battery, as I was advised by a dealer in SC when I was killing time one day. Do I need to change these out?
If you upgrade to a 50 or 60 amp circuit breaker or fuse is it not idea to check your wires to? If you put a 60 amp fuse or breaker and the wire is only rated for 40 amp wont the wiring get hot enough or potentially get hot enough to cause problems? I know when I checked into it for my terrova I had to upgrade wiring to or at least it was explained to me that way.
Yes you must also use the guage wire that is recommended by the TM manufacturer.
Yes, you must take both the trolling motor requirements and the wire's capability into consideration. If you ran 6 gauge wire with a 60 amp breaker you could run about any trolling motor you wanted to safely. However, lets say you put a 55lb thrust motor on. Max amp draw for one of them is about 42 amps. In that case I would use a 50 amp breaker. This way if the motor ever picked up a wad of fishing line amp draw will go up at when it reaches 50 amps the breaker will pop a lot sooner than with the 60 amp breaker. You just might save a trolling motor that way. I hope I explained that right.
