I used a barbed 1/32 weedless jig a lot. And the local tackle shop usually has them. But here lately they have been getting harder and harder to come by. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can buy a mold at so I can just make them myself.

do-it makes one. you can get them at Barlows or Jan's Netcraft
I have looked on there website and they have weed guards that are multiple strands, I am wanting one with a single strand. Or can you just put one strand of mono in the weed guard slot and poor it and it work?
I have one that takes the multiple strands, and I made one to take a single strand. both work well. on the multi strands I take fingernail clippers and cut off all but three strands before I use them. if you try to pour with a single mono in the multi strand mold the lead will seep around the mono unless you use very heavy mono.
Thanks for the info! Now on the stands for the weed guard which thickness do you use? Also can you use sickle hooks on the do-it ones? On the website it just says eagle claw. But I have been searching around and some of the websites say sickle hooks work with some of the molds.
Think they are fg9's ? Will tell you what size to use on the mold. Yes sickle hooks will work in the mold
Nightprowler does some of these, maybe he can help.
For Single strand it is best to get the mold you want in a non weedless model and modify the mold to except only a single strand
so pretty much take a dremmel tool and make a channel for the mono to go into before pooring the lead in? One more question about it. would you just buy mono and cut it to the size that you want then put it in the mold, or can you buy the weed guard?

Yes on cuttin a groove ..
If you want Mono .. cut the size U need
Also consider using braided wire leader material .. coated or un coated.
does it tend to work a lil better?
I don't understand all I know about this "molding" business :dono .... but, I'd think that "mono" would just melt, when the lead was poured in. And, unless we're talking 50, 80lb test mono ... they're not going to be all that "weedless", since the smaller pound test lines wouldn't be stiff enough. Would they ???
I know that the Y-guard, & multi-strand fiber style weedguards (that I have) are "glued" into the jighead (must have some sort of post to make a hole, or possibly drilled out afterwards) ... and the single strand & multi-strand wire weedguards are put in the mold, then the lead is poured in (since they wouldn't melt).
ALSO ... cdunst ... scroll all the way down to the bottom of this page, & under the "Similar Threads" border there's a thread by Nightprowler that you might want to check out. You might possibly, also want to check the other "mold" threads, just to see if there's anything of interest in them.
... cp
In the weedless mold that I made I use weedguards for bass jigs. they come in bunches and you can get them black or clear. Take one bunch and pull off one or two ( I use two ) put the hooks in the mold FIRST then lay the weeders in the channel you cut, make sure the mold closes all the way then pour. the weeders will be too long I trim the after I pour but you could trim them before. They will not melt when the lead is poured Crappiepappy. the weedguards for bass jigs are stiffer than mono and work better JMO and I put 2 in cause after some use and fish catchin 1 will break off sometimes and this leave me with one.
I can tell you your wasting your time if your considering Mono, it will just melt. Talk to Nightprowler.
I have used Mono years ago but have found Braided Wire leader material to be the best ... The coated is a little more flexivble.
If you are pouring mono single strand you have to pour them with the mold on the cool side ... get to hot and you will have a problem.
You can also use leader material, the biggest problem will be using powder paint. The only other way I can think to do this is pour your heads - powder paint them - then use a dremel to drill a hole where you want the guard and epoxy it in. You wouldn't have to mess with your mold this way.
