My LORD BROTHER R U SURE THESE R UR FIRST? THOSE R AWESOME BEST COLOR COMBO OUT THERE IF U ASK ME.
Thank you i really appreciate it. I just need to get the bodies looking a little better and i should be good! I definitely got a new hobby now and i hope it becomes a good passion!!
i see 2 things i would fix. first it looks like u missed a wrap of ur chennile at the jig head. may be the picture. second i would use less tail but thts OP
You are off to a good start and they will catch you fish. You are just starting to tye so always remember to clean the eyes out before you tye the material on your jig. Nice colors and welcome to jig tying :)
Nice looking jigs!
I hate it myself when the paint covers the eye and I have to stop and clean out the hole. I still get some myself with paint in the eyes. Also as yellowjacket said the chenille needs to be fuller at the head. I always put one extra wrap to make it full to the head. I learned from mistakes I made too but your off to a good start and hope you enjoy tying as much as I do. It's very addictive and I spend too much on materials but it's a cheaper hobby for me than others I can think of. :)
Looks like tier getting some good advice already. Make your chenille almost like it's overlapped so it's fill all the way to the head. I like long tails, but you may want to make them just a little shorter. I really can't tell if you left the stem in your marabou or not, but if you did you may want to tear off the barbules and stack them until you get enough to tie in. Always cut the end you tear off and not the natural ends and leave them looking natural like yours do now.
First jigs though, not bad at all and soon you will have them looking good!

You guys are so friendly and informational its awesome! Now all im gonna be thinking about at work is how to make them better when im supposed to be working on planes! Lol I'm already addicted to making my own jigs :)
Looking pretty good. I like the color combination for sure. I am with others in making the tail shorter on the jig and wrapping the chenille fuller up by the head, but really nice first ties.

I prefer to stop my chenille bodies when I reach the hook point. Try it, see if it gives you the look you are wanting.
Very nice ties and good color combo ! Oh ,and welcome to the ADDICTION :highfive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know if you're using powder paint, but if you are, here's a hint. Grab your jighead by the eyelet (covering it completly) with a pair of needle nose pliers and then heat and dip. Clamp style forceps will do the same. Saves me a lot of time and cussin'.
I was thinking about using needle nose or maybe even putting masking tape over the eyelet?? you guys think that would work for powder painting?
Your jigs look very nice for your first.
I don't think masking tape would work. The tape may have a bad reaction to the heat. You wouldn't be able to apply the tape to the jig after heating since they cool quickly. Some people use aluminum foil to cover swivels on Roadrunner type heads, but that's a lot of work. You're better off just holding the jig by the eye while you dip.
Nicely done. Your off to a great start. There are to schools of thought on the chenille. The first I will call the Skip School that that chenille goes to the head and no thread is showing. The second is one I will call Matching the hatch which the thread is showing. If the second school of thought is used the thread must be RED to match the gill flash. Which one do I do Both. Both have there place just personal preference as to which you want to use. Good rule of thumb Use match the hatch method on minnow and bait fish patterns on all others use the Skip School.
