Lake Degray 1/11/12 McCrappie

Nice day to be crappie fishing on Lake Degray 1/11. light west wind, ahead of a cold front, low barometric pressure, etc... Managed to catch 23 nice ones but it was a little work getting the crappie to bite.
Do any of you have any opinions of what a full moon does to crappie in the winter months? I noticed the full moon on the drive home and started thinking of how the full moon affected the crappie this time of year.

Well I was headed there yesterday until my back got hurt, doing better today though. IF my past luck is any indication of my next trip I'd just about go elsewhere though. As for the full moon, i've heard in the Spring of the year it makes them bite all night long as they can silhouette minnow from below and they feed all night long, not sure about this time of the year though. I'm thinking of heading back out there in the next couple days, though, maybe get out early on Saturday and try em, it's my B-day Saturday and the wifie has dinner plans so I wouldn't be able to fish all day long so I may go early.

Hey,,nice crappie there,,glad you and father got into them...thats memories right there. I caught some yesterday that were gorged on shad,,one with my jig had a shad that looked alive in his mouth...The moon affects everything on mother earth..but exactly how,,is yet a mystery to me...

Looks like you and your Dad hd a GREAT time catching those fish. Certainly a trip to remember.Thumbs Up And those slabs youre holding up are some hawgs too. Congrats on a couple of special trips.:)

OHHH WOW MC, Those are nice ones, it's nice to see your face in the pics with a big ole Grin I would be grinning too iffen I had those. Great Job and to do it with your Dad. As far as the full moon i have always believed that 3 days before, during and three days after, get on the water as much as you can cos it is most likely the best time of any month. It seems to me I most always catch my biggest and best catches during a full moon cycle.

Getting to show your pictures to folks is almost as fun as catching them to me. Great catch guys!

Those are great. I wish we had more blacks in our pothole. I thnink they put up a stronger battle.

Really nice mess there!!! I have not put much thought into it but i went back and looked at the dates on my pics from this past year and most of the good catches were during a full moon.. We might be onto something here..

Nice mess! And X2 what Russ said about the 3 days before and 3 days after a full moon especially early morning and late evening. I only get to fish on Sat and Sun. (poor me) so most of the time I only hear about it. One day I will be there 3days before and after that full moon

Time on the water my friend, time on the water. I'm going again tomorrow. I can tell you this though, fish will be deep in the lakes, as in 18+ depending on lakes depth. If you are on a good lake which has large numbers of crappie watch your graph and find them that way, otherwise you'll be like me....searching, hoping to find deep brush and hungry fish where can pattern them somewhat. Knowing the colors they are biting helps too.

Bw2506, I wish I could put you on the slabs. We have been catching them about 20 to 30 ft on average on brush or some kind of structure. Tight line with a jig. I see a lot of folks fishing with minnows, but we have been doing well just using jigs. Early has been better this week. Today brother mccrappie caught a limit by lunch time, he started around 6:30am. He said this afternoon they shut down in the area he was fishing. Sometimes they have started biting again later in the afternoon. Regardless, you catch a few slabs, you have a lot of fish for the fry daddy. Good luck

All that said, I have been and fished all day and catch only a couple so i feel your pain.

I may try again in the morning. Gonna try some of the condos put out by the ffa.. I drove over a cpl fri that looked good on the structure scan

yellow jacket, good afternoon.
we were fishing with 1/8 jig heads with pearl colored jigs. We like the 1/16 or 1/8 jig heads that deep so we can feel the thump (bite) Vertical about 25 to 30 ft over structure. Good luck
