looks good for ur first 1. IMO i would have used more tail. looks good
Not bad for a first tie. Mine was way worse. Keep it as a momento, look at it a year from now an compare the difference!!!
looks like those lures I've seen at BPS can't remember the name, etc., but come in 1 or 2 to a pack. looks pretty good to me. Guess the real test is if it will catch a fish. GL

y laugh? That bird'll fly. Dont listen to that first or last jig mumbo jumbo. Guarantee it'll catch. All the colors are there. Profile is great. It's neat n clean. Great jig.
I'm not an expert and will never claim to be so take my advice with a grain.
I try to keep as much,as possible, of my thread hidden away. Only bc im always fishing something heavy wooded. But the red in Urs gives a blood like line which is always good, to me. Dunno if it is, but I'd hit it thick w/ some cement, glue or epoxy unless you're casting and counting down free of abrasion.
But you know how to catch fish. I've seen some of your posts.

Colors are great.I agree with hiding the thread,and a little more tail feathers,but great first one !!!!!
All great points, and thanks for the encouragement. I have head cement coming with the order that I placed today, along with a collarless mold and a few other things. I know I will have to work on hiding the thread. What is the easiest way to do that?
Thats a nice jig. You're off to a killer start!
After you trap the thread you only need 4 whip finish to finish the jig. Like everyine else said. Just a little more tail. If that were mine, I'd cut a 1/2" off what you have. I don't like short strikes.
come spring i will have been tying a year and i can go look back at the first jigs i tied and say WOW is tht the same person tying? it looks AWESOME for u first 1 i can rember my first 1 UGLY IT WAS!
Nothing wrong with that especially for a first. Most don't do that well, I didn't.

Mine weren't that good. Good jig and good choice of material. Some folks leave the thread like that but use red for a gill looking area.You'll tie tie some better in a month or two. Point is what MS said, that jig will put fish in the boat. Nuf said.
Good advice for sure. For your first, it's evident you've been paying attention. I personally think there are a variety of jigs you could tie. Having the thread neck exposed like you have gives the jig good contrasting colors. If you tied this combo with the thread hidden, the head and body would appear as one. I like breaking the colors up. I would taper cut the tail off a bit like suggested.

I forgot to order red threadbanghead but you can bet it will be on my next order. I measured the length of the tail and it is 3/4" from the bend of the hook. I'm guessing you guy's are keeping it closer to a 1/2"?
Just remember pretty jigs are more to catch fishermen, the fish are'nt that picky. But they look great to me .:fish
Looks good ! It will catch fish , great colors !!! I to am just getting started . the more ya tie the easier it will get . There is a lot of good people here to help ya out .
x2. I've tied some very ugly jigs before and still caught fish on em. If you gotta critique your skill, make it your technique. Just make sure your jigs hold up to lots of fish, cause I guarantee you it'll catch 1, but will it catch 100? Thats what ya gotta focus on.Quote:

Looks better than the first one I tied...lol. It will catch fish I'm sure.
Man I'd fish with it, workin it on a long rod around some stumps and lay downs with the big ol' fat ones moving in to spawn.......come on Spring !!!!!!
