We also have a growing Black Bear Population here in Kentucky.
East Kentucky now has a small wild population of Black Bear. However, I imagine that within the next 5 to 10 years, parts of central, south central, and perhaps even parts of west Kentucky, may have a small Bear population.
The Bear numbers will probably move west as the bear population grows. So perhaps one day the Kentucky Lake, and LBL area will have a few Bear roaming around. :D
LBL could probably support a small wild Black Bear population.

You're talking to yourself again, Bill. Take your meds and log off for a while and it will all get better.
May see if Ed will start a hunting section for anyone obsessed with hunting. This is crappie dot com for a reason!
A lot of people on here Hunt also.
Actually this post has nothing to do with hunting, it is just showcasing two species that are making a big comeback in Kentucky.
The money generated from Fishing and Hunting Licenses goes towards helping species like this here in Kentucky.
So thanks to hunters and Anglers Kentucky now has a wild Elk Population.

Old news!
Yep, Revenue from Fishing License Sales is a big reason Kentucky now has Wild Elk.
So KY Anglers should be proud of themselves.
I live in Eastern KY I was there when the first herd was released! So I c them everyday. Look at my sig! that is a real picture of me standing beside a real elk. It had a brain worm and I could walk right up to it. I called Fish and Wildlife right after and they came and killed it.
Can you catch one on a jig???
If not I think your on the wrong forum
Thanks Justin,
I needed a good laugh today!
kentucky lake ,
You might want to check the facts a little bit. Here is why the elk herd is in Ky.
The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation was created in 1984 by four Montana elk hunters. In the twenty years since its’ creation, the RMEF has grown to be one of the most successful Conservation Organizations in the United States. Today the Foundation has over 138,000 members, with Chapters in all 50 states and Canada. The American Institute of Philanthropy consistently recognizes the RMEF as one of America’s most efficient conservation organizations, with 94 cents of every dollar raised going directly to on-the-ground conservation achievement.
Since 1984, the Foundation, which is headquartered in Missoula, Montana has raised over $458 million and has conserved or permanently protected over 3.9 million acres of wildlife habitat. In 2001, the RMEF launched a five year effort known as the Pass It On campaign. The ambitious goals of the 5 year campaign are to raise $250 million, conserve 2 million acres and restore elk to historic ranges, leaving an elk country legacy for future generations.
In 1996 the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation pledged over $1.4 million to the state of Kentucky’s elk restoration project. On December 18, 1997, seven elk that had been captured in Western Kansas were released at the Cyprus Amax Wildlife Management Area in Eastern Kentucky. This was the first of a series of releases that continued thru the winter of 2002. The plan originally contemplated releasing 1,800 elk at a rate of 200 per year for 9 years across a 15 county restoration zone. The translocations were discontinued in 2002, with just over 1,500 elk having been released at 8 different sites, 500 in the final 12 months of the releases. Since 1997, the Foundation has increased it’s funding of the project to $2,000,000.
The elk have thrived in Kentucky. They are achieving a 90% breeding success rate, and a 92% calf survival rate. The absence of predators, relatively mild Kentucky winters and abundant food sources have not only contributed to the remarkable population growth, but also account for the fact that the Kentucky elk are on average 15% larger than elk found in western states. By July 2000, Kentucky had the largest free ranging, wild elk herd east of Montana.
Yep, it's cool to have Elk in Kentucky.
You are missing something though.
Tens of Thousands of Non Residents apply to hunt elk in Kentucky.
They all have to pay a fee to apply for the KY Elk hunt.
All of that money goes to the KDFWR, and they use that money to manage all of the Lakes in Kentucky.
I believe Kentucky sent Elk to Missouri for their Elk Restoratation last year.
As a result Missouri gave Kentucky Crappie fingerlings for release in Kentucky Lakes/Rivers.
Do they make an HDS big enough to get all those antlers on the screen? banghead
Kentucky Lake,
I for one DO NOT MIND seeing a story like this on crappie.com
Guys if you read a title of a post and are not interested, all you have to do is.......................DON'T READ IT........
I'm the Mod of this State Forum ...& I don't see any need for subforums (off topic/sports/whatever) like some of the other states have, since there's generally not a lot of competition for posting space, here.
As BlackWidow stated ... you don't "have" to reply to a post about a subject matter that's not interesting to you, but it is your perogative to do so, if you wish. I would, however, ask that we try & keep things friendly & accomodating in our posted replies. That would go a long way towards making this state's forum one of, if not THE best one on this site. Infighting & uncontrolled trash talking has nearly destroyed several other state forums, and resulted in members leaving or getting run off, and a whole bunch of other ugliness that I would hate to see this forum go thru.
If I see a post that's counterproductive to the ideals of this site, or one that starts going "wrong" (in any sense of the word) .... then I will make the decision as to what to do with it !! As the Mod, I HAVE TO READ all of the posts. I can't use the "Ignore" button .... the rest of you CAN, if you don't wish to see posts by any particular member(s).
... cp
