Alright here's the question. I recently swapped my 12 volt Terrova for a 24 volt. My boat has 8 gauge wire ran for the trolling motor. It has 2 positive leads and 1 neg lead, I guess for a 3 wire system. Of course the terrova is a 2 wire and from what I hear really needs 6 gauge wire ran from the battery. I'm wondering if I double up the 2 positive leads together would that work instead of one 6 gauge lead, I would still only have one 8 gauge neg lead. What do you think will that work ?
my thoughts are call 1-800-EZ-poleholder.....he would know the correct answer for sure....

No, u still gonna have voltage drop because of the #8 neg wire, an it won't take the load of the 24v motor. Could get hot, but doubt if it will burn up. Volt drop and less performance is the concern. Come on down an we'll put u a new un in.

You're fixing to have a dozen people tell you #6 will be fine! Read your installation manual. It probably says use 6. I suggest you pull you some tinned #6.
being a electrician I can tell you this... you can parallel two #8's but only if they are the exact same length and you need to parallel the (-) leads too... the main thing is they have to be the exact same lengths or one will carry more load than the other. this being said if it was mine I would use #6 or even #4

Being in the 12v auto stereo business for 30 years, what Gator and ATM said. If voltage is yer main concern, get the Multi stranded oxygen free copper #6. Much less resistance than the stiff stuff.
BTW, the #8 will not burn up. Just a bit more resistance. I've used it in the past, and had OK results with my Terrovas.

Being a good ole country boy I did it myself. It like to have drove me crazy till I got it done. I ordered the 6 gage adapter for my plug. I will finish it when that comes in next week. I appreciate the help with the wiring question. By the way I foung the 6 gage wire at NAPA.
