17' Javelin Fiberglass Boat
I have rode in two javelins before they are not the best riding boat but do seem to be pretty stable. Only thing i see that i do not like is it is powered by an envinrude. That is my opion and you know what they say about opions
If it was in excellent condition like they say it could be a good deal. Seemed to me they played up the looks a bit much. I would have wnated to see more info about the motor, electronics, deck, etc (its 13 years old). I would think it would have at least a 150 on it. Do you know the model? But if it IS in good shape and runs well-it will be a decent fishing boat.
Great boats just too small, my 17.5 is too short for my liking. Winter aint even got started good, gonn a be some good deals on big boats I hope!!
Good Luck Larry, hope your feeling better!!
If it is a such a great boat & he just don't have time to use it ????? Why---- is he willing to trade?????????????
Watch out!!!!!!
Evinrude didn't become a dirty word until the ficht and again more recently. IMO most of the older non-fichts are work horses. A 90 wouldn't be a speed demon on that rig though. Might be worth taking a peek at if it's local to you
Looks good. BUT!!!!!!! Buyer beware.
Thanks guys, Rees, I was thinking that I wanted to move up to at least a 17.5 or 18 when I make the move (that way I dont have to build a new shop). I think I want to stay aluminum and I want either a Yamaha (1st choice) or Merc motor, 90-115 will suit me just fine. Just was lookin around on craigs tonight and saw that, will continue to look more. I completely in the buyin mood just yet anyway unless a jam up deal comes around. Think I will try to find a used boat and not bite the big bullet on a new since I dont get to fish as much as I would want
thanks
yea feelin better John, I have to stay in the 17.5 to 18 ft range in order to stay in my shop LOL cant build new shop for sure and buy a boat, dont really need another boat, just want longer and deeper boat than what I have, will feel better out on the water than I do with the one I have. of course I see folks out there in 14ft 36wide everyday I fish, I cant do that, couldnt get up and move around at all cuz my butt would be sucked so tight to the seat I would be attache LOL
what kinda boat do you fish out of now?

Shop is an easy fix, just build a dog house off the back of the section where your boat is gonna be.cheers
Andy, I have a 16ft G3 that I have now, been fishin out of it for 15 yrs or so, but I have fished more in the last 3 yrs than I have in the past, tryin to get back in to it and want a larger boat. My main concern is width and depth of the sides of the boat. My boat is 50 wide now but seems to me to be shallow sides on it. Just want to feel more secure when Im sittin up front trollin or spider riggin
I understand the $ consideration. But you don't often hear "I wish I had a smaller boat".
Buy all you can afford.
feelay might make you a good deal on his boat Larry.....you might ask him about it
Well....just remember...you asked.
Bottom line....pass.
Javelin was the sister company to Stratos at that time. It has since gone out of business...or at least the bass boat business. It was not known for speed at all. Generally decent beams and "OK" build quality, but lagged behind others of it's time. Pretty sure all they built had wood in the transom as a stiffener. If I'm wrong about that, it would have been composite in their largest and most latest model years. Performance was generally so-so for them with decent rides but said to be wetter than expected. Overall, not a bad boat for it's day, but better could be had. The reason for the pass rating is the price. For 6500, you could get a lot more boat. This one shows well and I'm not scared of the carbed Rudes. Like ES said, they're work horses. Ficht, which was Evinrudes answer for high pressure direct injection is where the problem started.
Since the garage is the problem, figure out to the 1/4 inch exactly how much room you have to work with and buy a boat 1/2" longer than that and a shoe horn and some grease to get perzackerly as much boat as you can push, squeeze and crush in there including kocking out dry wall if need be.
One trick you can use is to remove a jack plate from a boat that has it. Will cost you some top end and possibly plane time, but will get you 4 to 10" more boat storage. You can also install an aftermarket swing or removable tongue good for another foot. With that, you're liable to be able to squeeze a 19 footer where you could only get a 17.5. Caddy cornering the boat will get you some more too if that's possible.
Wannabe...
Seems like every really good deal on a boat I find has an Evinrude on it....most say "new power head".
Don't be scaring Larry, Feelay. He's sensitive.
Ficht - Pass
Etec - Nuh Uh
Everything else. A'ite.
They're all a gamble anyhow. Ain't nothing several thousand won't replace.

Now for some first hand experience. I currently fish out of a 1994 Javelin 363B with a 115 carbed 90 degree crossflow Johnson. The outboard is a workhorse and hasn't given me any trouble other than routine maintenance unitl I replaced the plastic carb bowls that OMC put on most of their botas through the 1990's.
The boat itself is a middle of the road design that lacks enough storage for my needs. OMC was the parent company of Javelin which is the sister band of Stratos so a lot of old Stratos technology went into the Javelins' design. Rough water performance is fair at best but once on pad the ride is comfortable. My 16'8" hull will GPS 49mph with a 20 pitch Raker, just me, no gear and a half tank of gas. The transom does have wood in it so check for rot. I gave $4500 for my boat two years ago that was ready to fish. If the buyer doesn't want to move on that price and it is in sound shape-move on. Sure Ranger makes a better boat, and I will have one someday soon, but that is not the market that these boats were designed for so don't expect the same quality going into it. Good luck and if I can help out at all, let me know.
In other words.....yeah, what Wannabe said....right Dutch? LOL.
Wannabe...
Yea, that has a nice ring to itrotfl
Like so many other things in life...She's a good boat, but she wasn't my first choice.
thanks Dutch, I appreciate you taking time to write this up :) I am pretty sure now that I am goin with a aluminum boat and 18 ft minimum if I can find a good used one that dont break the bank. As Rees mentioned earlier, its still young in the winter and Im sure others will pop up. I am looking for stability not speed, I want some fuel economy as well, I want a wide boat with tall real tall sides. Im want something that can take the rough water (if I get caught out) that will get me back to the shore and when the ski boats, waverunners and barges come by it dont fill like Im gonna be tossed out of the boat

I just bought a 2003 Lowe 180W with a 1998 Evinrude 150. The boat is in showroom condition! It was bought new in 2003 and the guy didn't want the 2003 Evinrude Ficht so the dealership had a new 1998 Evinrude 150 Intruder that they changed out with him. He used the boat 6 times in 2003 7 times in 2004 it was garaged kept and never used 2005-2010 he sold it to a friend of mine this past January he used it 3 times. I mean there isn't a scratch on this boat the worst place on it is a busted tail light from parking it in the garage. Is has a cover that goes with, I has 3 livewells one with bait keeper, It has 3 pedestals in the front factory installed Motor don't have 50 hrs on it that giving a few. I gave $7250 for it. I'll try to post pictures if I can. My friend had the carbs rebuilt this past February after he bought it.
Sorry cant get the pics rotated for some reason.
Thank Grizzly2k1, now that is kinda what Im lookin for, and that for sure sounds like a decent price. I dont know that I would want that large of motor or not
you do want the motor power maachuu!! better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it
good point tman, but I just never have been a big motor guy, also I dont want to have 25k in a boat that gets used maybe 1 time a week and a week during vacation :( gotta be real here and I am in the north part ( poverish ) of the state unlike you high rollin gewbers down south Rofl
I live in the second highest poverty county in the state..what you mean? I can't get any donations for the tman christmas fundraiser.
