I have talked to a few lurkers here that fish Anna-- I hope to be there @8 at Anna point, see me out there holler out!
For the rest here , I will post back with results..
To be honest, if I had not found CC, I doubt that I would have even thought about trying to catch crappie this time of yr!
I learned alot in few mths, thanks to this place and you guys! cheers

until i met guys on this site i only fished the cooler times of the year. well now i fish for crappie year round. thanks guys
I learned so much on this forum, about the local lakes, marine electronics, techniques, jig tying, and most recently pouring plastics. Ive gained alot of knowledge and a few friends that is nice enough to share the lakes with me. Good people here....

This is truly a great site for meeting men on Internet! Some have even met for sleepovers! I slept with Doodlum at LCR. Corker took pictures.
Well Anna was still muddy in the areas I know, so I played around looking for new stuff! Found some nice structures and brush-- on SI first cast - small stiff-back
20 or so more casts at 2 different places, I did manage 2- 9" crappie and one 5-6" one. As I said I found some very nice stuff (brush/rockpiles) but I will have to admit -I need help, I really have no idea how to fish brush deep! I tried casting and letting it hit bottom slow jiging it up and down but not fish and not hang-up in brush. I was guessing I just wasn't in the brush..??
I desided to look for some stipers on the SI.. That was AWESOME, The first ones I saw on screen was a group of 6 fish on my left 25-30' I made a single cast and caught 22" fish. I kept after them and at times I saw 100's of them on screen, but no repeats on hook-ups. After about 20 or so cast, I found a very nice BIG birds nest!!-- in my reel --- so That was it for striper fishing, and I decided to call it a day !

Charlie- It sounds like your new toy's doing the job!
I forgot to mention, found old road bed with nice drop-offs on side (ditches) Also something that looked like schoolbus! But wasn't tall enough for bus when I went directly over top of it :) It was said on another thread they take up time, which is true-- but I think any new toy will and as you use it , it becomes second nature and isn't using time but saving time! Now, I need to learn to record and post images! (I did get hummindbird PC)
Nice work Charlie. Nothing like marking fish, pitching to them and hooking up. That is a fun toy to play with. Follow that road bed until you find intersecting creek, bridge, pipe, ditch and start catching those fish. It is fun ain't it!

While on my boat today, in the menu I found snapshot (on/off) it was off (default?) so I turned it on-- for about 5minutes then turned it off. thinking this is how you recorded stuff-- well it didn't..
So I just did some reading,, the book I got was unclear about recording-- But it showed that you press view button till you get to recording "view"-- (AW- HA) I don't have that view normally-- when I scan thru the different views..
So I guess, I turn snapshot on--- and leave it on at all times.. Then when I want to record something I press view button and the recording view will be on shown.. ( because I have snapshot on)
If this makes sense to anyone that records LMK. (or if it doesnt)
When you say recording an image I think snapshot. At least that's what it's called on my unit. (Hummingbird 997) You will need to have this feature enabled which for me is on my last menu page. (under accessories, set screen snapshot to on) Recording would be video that you would play on your pc using Humviewer or you can watch on your unit. The disadvantages of watching the video on your unit is the smaller screen and you can only increase the play speed slightly. Using Humviewer you can increase your play speed a lot and the bigger display of you computer makes it easier to see things.Quote:

They do have alot of pontoon boats slow trolling bait. ( its kinda a mad house, but not as bad a bay fishing) I could tell you were they are easy-- Its the same place I used to catch them 25yrs ago! ( but would be glad to ride along)
If the brush is sitting in 25 FOW and it sticks up 5', that puts the top of it 20' below the surface. If I'm dropping the minnows 13' to 15' and the water's not mud, the fish should find my minnows.Quote:

Water should be good to go in a few days, I heard they had a real heavy rain like 4" in couple hrs! ( We didn't get much in richmond, in fact I played with motors much of the day it rained. (both TM and outboard motor) One guy at Lake Anna, I was talking with-- told me he has fished the lake when Ice was on edges of banks and he floated corks along the ice edge-- He stated crappie use ice edge like weed edge- darting out to get minnows and back under ice for cover! He even pointed out cove to me!

Just crappie I'll have to try the floating at the ice edge. Last year it completely iced over. I really couldn't get in I'm looking forward to fishing a lot this winter on Anna. You wouldn't want to share the cove name would you?
Mike, Its really simple but my brain is slow . :)
I don't know name of many places yet, just started back fishing there after 25yr lay-off of FW fishing. ( cove next to state park and near Island)
heycharlie ,I have read on another post of them catching fish at ice edge in shallow water at Buggs. Didn't pay much attention to it, maybe something to it. Still hard to believe when deeper water is near by. By the way when you get my age brain will be even slower. LOL
That cove is called Ware. Thanks for the info. on Ice edges. I'm going to give that a try this winter.

It does have very deep water and I hear structure in cove ( many brushpiles)-- It just another spot I need to spend time on! I am 100% sure I will be fishing it this spring and some others I found like it like it. I just got back from Dr, he's taking my dad off coumidin, that should give 1-2 more days a mth to fish!! ( fewer Dr visits)
I've fished within sight of Ice and caught fish but never right at the Ice! I guess I'll have to explore it.
