I am going to mount a fish finder at the front of my boat. My question is where should I mount the transducer?
Should it be on the trolling motor or some place else? Need suggestions.

the majority of the xducers are mounted on the TM using the mfgr's TM mount which usuall consists of some type of metal/plastic bracket and then mounted to the lower motor unit (blade end) using a large worm type clamp that goes around the lower motor unit. You just need to be careful how you mount it in terms of routing the xducer cable in a way to avoid it binding up or getting pinched when deploying/stowing the TM. This is for a simple 2d FF or DI. Any movement of the TM when controling the boat affects the picture to a limited degree. If a SI unit, I've read where it really messes up the picture, most mount the SI xducer on the transom from what I've read, but options are available.
Look in the Electronics forum and you'll find lots of info on how various members have done it.

da 'ducer apparatus - Podunk (po dungk) A small isolated town, region, or place that is regarded as unimportant. . . .
I use a portable eagle fish finder on the front of my boat and stick the transducer on the side of the hull right beneath the area I'm sitting with a suction cup mount.....works great to know what's right below me...pull it off real quick to trailer or run the lake at wide open...no mounting ...no banging into something with it mounted on trolling motor!!!!
I suggest the trolling motor. If you fish channels, this will tell you when you are leaving or entering. Lets you know wheather to speed up or slow down. I have one on trolling motor and one at the rear of the boat for when I'm running..........works for me.
I have the same set up as hooker and it works well for me.

THanks people took your advice and mounted it on TM. Now all I have to do is put it in the water and test.
I'am set up like Hooker and most people on Talquin. Been on for 3 yrs. and no problems yet.
Since I rarely fish from the front of my boat anymore I have my transducer portably mounted on PVC pipe I put over the side whenever i need it. I mostly LL troll and fish out of the back of my boat.
