I am getting ready to order a self inflating L jacket. What happens if your out fishing and it starts raining? Will it inflate? I park my boat under a carport and sometimes rain will blow into my boat and my storage places are not waterproof.

I have always wondered about that, but mine has never self inflated.They make some of them that are manual inflate. They have a plastic T that you have to pull. I have couple of extra canisters for mine, and it has been a little damp. Hmmmm you got me wondering if mine will work now. It just cost 25.00 to find out . I'll take my chances in the water. Another thing I always heard is that it is not counted as a life jacket unless you have it on.
I can see now why so and so can catch more fish then you,lol,,,,surely they don't sell one you cann't wash mastard,soda,coffee stains off without it blowingup in your face.
Hint bend all so and so fish hooks out to a small ark as to slip out on hookset...just funny with ya
I bought 2 self inflators and both have been converted to manual due to inadvertent inflation one darn near blowed seat back off I had it under a straped down seat when it went off the disc that fires the cartridge on my jackets needs to be replaced pretty often if kept in auto configuration.

I converted mine to manual because it keep inflating in the back of my jeep during the summer heat.

Also, someone posted it already, but it's really worth mentioning. If you have a regular life jacket accessible (laying on a chair, etc.), you're legal. The wording for the inflatables (type V in the fishing guidebook), says they have to be worn the whole time if they are going to substitute for the other one laying on the deck.

I wear the mustang hydrostatic. It inflates from water pressure if you fall in. The inflaters are pricey, but you only replace them every five years. I've gotten pretty clumsy as I've gotten older and had knee replacement, so it's cheap insurance.
X2 on the Mustang Hydrostatic, Rain and such will not arm it they say, Good insurance when I fish alone, getting old and wobble alot, LOL, But they do cost more than the others,love ones got me one a few years back, so They would feel better , but its lite, and I do wear it ,
If I paid that much for one, I'm gonna sleep WITH it. Multiple times a week.Quote:
