I have seen some asking about batteries over the winter too. I charge mine up to full charge just before I cover the boat for winter. Usually the first of Nov. but sometimes as late as Thanksgiving. Again it sits out all winter with no heat or charger hooked up. I don't usually get it back out until March-April. I am probably jinxing myself right now but I have never had a battery go bad over the winter. When I pull the boat out in Spring the cranking battery usually shows around 40-50% charge and the trolling batteries show around 60-70% charge. RRRRRRRRRRR I'm probably going to be sorry I said this. We will see in the spring. Supposed to get our second snow this coming Sunday/Monday. My fishing preparation now is getting new ice auger blades.
I move the two head units of my Humminbirds to the house because I don't want to chance it-too much $$$ and too easy to do. The batteries stay hooked up to a digital onboard charger that goes into trickle mode after 21 days and I've never had a battery freeze on me.

Shrooms ... most battery articles will tell you to fully charge your batteries at least once a month, during non-use times, just to keep them from freezing & bursting and extend their life-span. I always bring my batteries in, during the Winter storage times & recharge them once a month ... and I've usually had my WM batteries last for ~4-5yrs.

I usually move the boat from the barn to the house car garage, ask the wife move her truck to the barn so I can park my truck next to my boat, She always says NO. it's get cold in the car shed but not real bad.....

Hardly ever gets below the teens at night here but my units will be in the house once it gets that cold. I aint fishing when it's that cold.:rolleyes:
