Not bad at all for a new tyer. Some do tie with their thread exposed on a chenille jig like you did, but I do not. THe only jigs I have the thread showing is a thread neck style jig.
Yours should catch fish though.

Your jigs looks plenty good enough to fool Mr. Crappie just like they are.Thumbs Up Just figure out which colors works best on your lake and keep tying.Hands ClappingHands Clapping
they look good, I have been using the thin diameter monofilament clear thread that crazy sells, and it wedges down between the chenille and the head, and is not visible when I am done.
First welcome from Vermont!!! Nice ties that should help you get em!!!!!!!!
Welcome from Alabama. Those are very good for your first ties. Flat waxed nylon thread cinches down very well. I use it all the time. The silver and pink combo is a winner.
nice ones for the first time tying! those will fool mr crappie. wat is the tail on the 5th one down?
Nice ties, but the only thing you might want to try would be to shorten the tails up to prevent short strikes. You have some nice color combos, and that hook is a killer. Nice job.
You are off to a good start. Welcome to Crappie.com and to tying Thumbs Up.
Personally I think the tail length is fine and if you find the right color for them that day they will not be short striking, they will eat it and the hook will be all the way in the back of their mouths. SOme like short tails for that reason, but I have never experienced that problem and my tails are not short unless the customer tells me that is what they want, but they almost never do ask for that.

only thing missing is a slab, looks good
Welcome to the forum. As for the jigs Nicely Done. Winner winner Chicken Dinner. Now show us some done Slater Cajun jig style.

Only thing i see is that some of you're tails are trimmed even . That takes some of the action away just leave them natural.
Nice looking first efforts. There are a lot of variables to tweek the finished product, and you'll learn em all over time. Square cutting the tails after the tie is finished changes the whole look. It's not wrong, just different and it takes away some of the action. Try arranging the tips of the fiber and leaving the tips and cutting the butt end for the desired length. This leaves the action and gets the desired length. Colors look great. Welcome from Middle Tennessee.
