That's a nice present.
They are pretty straight forward, but interpretation of what you see on screen has always been the learning curve on fishfinders. I still use a flash in my dash board as it is always accurate when others are not.
You should be able to find all sorts of cover underwater now with that bad boy and also be able to mark them and save them for future fishing trips! Nice b-day gift. Oh and Happy B-day bud.

That 798 has a built in flasher mode call "Circular Ice fishing Flasher" which is a view of a flasher shaped image and using the RTS feature of the 798 to display the (Real Time Sonar) sonar returns in that familiar flasher shape you recognize...
