Can use all kinds of their feathers. The main ones are the barred gold side ones, but lots of goo stuff there. I sure would take some if you have plenty.

Frank, add me to your list if you have plenty and don't mind. Wings and body have many uses, but flank feathers are the classic feathers. Jig tiers love to play around with a variety of new materials.
Thanks in advance,

I would be interested in some of those feathers also, all of them are useful Thumbs Up. Congrats on the hunt.
Add me to the list of folks who are looking for the lemon colored flank feathers Wood Duck must have something to trade.
Add me too
for just a few....lemon or barred
Thank you.
Sorry DON'T add me to the list. I got plenty. LOLS !!!! I hunt and have traded for feathers and bought some dyed color flanks of Mallard.
What I want to say about those is there is a pattern that ether JungleJim or PBug came up with with. Sorry I don't remember who to give credit for it. It Was called the Flash Duck. I have been tying that one up and have had some success with it. The neat thing about it is that it is simple to tie and can be made up to be a electric Chicken with dyed feathers. Do a search on them and tie a few not hard and a great fish getter.

Ok guys, my next question is, are feathers just plucked or do you skin the bird. maybe we can trade some feathers for some jigs.
I got some turkey feather this year from a friend and he plucked them and let them air dry.
Just pluck them if you skin the bird the skin has to be salted and borax added to preserve it. Stuff the feathers in a paper sack and add a few moth balls to kill the bugs for a week or put in the freezer for a couple of days. Then store in clear Zip loc bags. At least thats the way I do it. Its not hard,

Ship Glad you like that Idea but with all the wild game and fish in our two freezers my wife thinks nothing of it. Guess that she knows that it will be a short stay in there. I like to leave the head on the ducks that I kill just in case there is any question if the game Warden shows up. Each package is dated and I can keep track of the what is in there and what has to be eaten shortly. Fish never stay to long but I did find a package of deer that was over a year old. Can we say the Dogs had a good meal.

has any body heard frm frank c?
Ship : If they see me out I always get checked. There probable cause is I am a Crazy Old Indian. I have been check three times in a morning. That is why I cross all my T and dot all My I. The craziest was when they checked me on a jet ski not only did they check for fish but for life jackets and Throwable PFD's. I had mine on and so did the dog plus three more cushions in the boat.

Yeah. I know about racial profiling too. I make sure to stay legal too.
hey guys, I am still getting the wood ducks. i am breasting them out and freezing the rest. as soon as the hunting slows down i will pull the feathers and send a bunch out to all that asked.
I would be interested in some feather as well...... thanks http://www.freesmileys.org/emoticons...animal-002.gif
I have some store bought, but if there are any available I could use some. Not a lot, but it would be cool to show you the completed jig with your feathers.
I don't know how you will manage all these requests, but if anything is left I would appreciate something to play with also. Thanks
The flank feathers are the best for tying jigs. I've been tying what I've called a "flash duck" for over 15 years now and it's still my favorite go to jig.I've been dyeing a lot of them in fluorescent colors and they sre killers, especially the crappie and gills. Fl.orange and fl.yellow is a killer combo. I have plenty of feathers,at least for now. For those who havn't tied with the flank feathers you definitely need to give them a try.
Hey Jungle Jim It was you that made the Flash Duck that I mentioned earlier in this Thread. Any body that hasn't tried it needs to. Very easy to tie and it looks very Crappie getter to me. Once I got on to tying them I found I could crank out one about every 3 to 4 minutes. I tied up something like three dozen in different color combos. I know that I saved the pictures that you posted to my hard drive and have done of about every color combos that you posted.
I just got done with a trade with another tier who had a whole bunch of Mallard and Gadwall flank. I will only buy the dyed flank that I need but the Flo. Chartreuse and Flo Pink are my favorites so far. Want to try to do some in the Flo.Blue Also.

The gadwalls are killer feathers as well. The palmer chenille wrapped around the collar makes a huge difference as well. CAT has the fl.blue mallard flank and carries the palmer chenille also. If you havn't tried the palmer chenille yet order a couple colors and try it. It makes great collars, tails and you can palmer wrap it over chenille bodies.
Yeah but those lemon colored flank feathers are really a neccissity for Catskill style dry flies. Makes you cringe when you think of all the feathers that get tossed every year.
re Jungle Jim's comment on dying wood duck feathers with fluorescent colors ... I was curious what you use to dye them with and process ?
HHD
Jungle Jim the question that HHD ask I think needs to be expanded on. You do a good tutorial so why not do a good one on dying the feathers. What dyes to get how to clean and dry them ect. Then maybe one on Kip tails. Just a Idea as Duck feather and road kill is something most of us get but want to add a color to and use them with jigs. A winter project for you!!!

I'll be one of the first ones in line to watch it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:eek::eek::eek:
Earlier this year when I was dyeing saddles I posted a verbal dyeing process on another site along with pics of some of the saddles I dyed. The Cushings dyes that I used for those wasn't fluorescent. I recently found some flourescent dye on DARKLIGHTFX.COM that I've tried with good results. I did add white vinegar with it to make sure the dyes set in the feathers. I dye all materials whether it's feathers or something like kiptail the same way. If I get more time I'll try and give a detailed explanation on my dyeing process.I don't type fast so by the time I explain it all time would run out on me. Maybe I'll do it in parts.
And some very impressive dying it was !!!!!

Thanks for putting it up Rad. I don't post pics on here unless I get my kids to help me. The other site is much easier for me to post pics. These colors were hot this summer with the women's feather hair extensions. I've gotten away from that but that fl.pink is a crappie killer for me. The duck feathers are more difficult to get the bright color like the saddles. It might be due to the oils in the feathers even though they are washed prior to dyeing.
I'm looking forward to any future tutorial you can offer up , junglejim. I'm all eyes and ears. Looks like great work. Thanks in advance.
