You can ask someone if they'd like to trade for them but anyone here molding their own, even though they bought the mold is illegal for them to sell them.
Gobbler .... they ain't no "road runner/stumpjumper" ... but take a look at RonDon's baits :
Jigheads « LaBaits.com
I purchased some, and like you I used my own O rings & blades .... they look great, and I'm gonna get them wet as soon as I get a chance !!
From what I understand, Fatman is correct ... the patent on Roadrunner & Stumpjumper (pony head style jigheads) makes it illegal for people to sell them (even if they custom make them). But, RonDon's version is not a ponyhead ... so it's legal !!
... cp
Would like to trade for the same original post, since I can't get them from RoadRunner with a #2 hook unless I buy them with a willow leaf blade which I don't care for.Thank's
really? ozark tackle makes the road the roadrunner head and sells them and you can buy them cheap at psfish.net i just want some with a bigger hook, i don't care what you call them if someone has a mold and wants to "trade some green paper" for some molded on the widegap hooks shoot me a pm. for those that just want a plain #2 in the 1/16 go to psfish.net i believe they are 26.99 for a 100 unpainted, w/silver indiana blade.
Gobbler,
Well I see they are but the fact is they're doing it illegally. Ed has a great site here, and Blakemore is a sponsor - please don't do anything to screw that up.
well maybe they will take the hint and make some with a widegap, problem is they will charge you a dollar a head and call it a pro design, when it cost them maybe 10 cents to make. bs
i see that one hand washes the other here, but when one hand is dirty doesn't it make them both?
The only model Mustad wide gap that would fit in either of the do-it molds would be a 37188. And I know most of the folks here who have the
Do-It mold have the assorted one.
This style hook is more expensive than regular aberdeen 90 degree. You can only pour 1 jig at a time with the assorted mold unless you buy the more expensive Pro model mold for 1/16th oz. only (about $50 bucks). So a persons time for 1 jig at a time is more.
Quote "well maybe they will take the hint and make some with a widegap, problem is they will charge you a dollar a head and call it a pro design"
Home molders would probably charge you a $1 a head, from the increased cost of the hooks to the pain in pouring 1 at a time. So don't complain about the company charging that much when a home molder would probably charge that for it. If you had to buy the mold, a melter, the hooks, the crane swivels and lead for just that style jig head and cast them your self - then you wouldn't think twice about a $1 a head.
If you don't think my estimates are right (yes I'm a molder), ask any of the other guys who mold and have them estimate it for you.
I am not trying to step into a argument here but you use to be able to buy the roadrunner head in 1/16 oz with a # 2 hook with a silver blade,I still have a few and that is what I like to use.Now they don't make them anymore, they have a #4 hook in them. They did not charge you anymore for them.I have been supporting Blakemore for a long time now and have nothing but good thing's to say about them but they do not make the head's anymore that I like.Because of the blade.I guess somebody could keep buying them and change the blade's out themselve's.But I think they are expensive enough already and why do I want to spend more on them?I wished they still produced them like they use to or offer them with either type of blade.I personally don't care if it is a mustad hook or not,I just want a #2 hook with a silver blade. When they mass produced these they were not called a pro design and did not cost you extra.
check out psfish.net, they have them with gold #2 hooks and a silver indiana blade for 26.99 for a 100 pack. though they are unpainted
the hook i am refering too is the mustad wide gap, it has a much wider gap than a regular #2, holds fish very well.
Neithe one of you say which head you're looking for barbed collar or no collar.

Keep an eye on the jig swap section. There's a material swap box that's gone around 3 times and we decided to hold it until winter so we could get more people involved. I know I've put at least 50 of the barbed collar pony heads in that box. Haven't been able to pour this year due to medical issues, but others have also put them in.

the Mustad model hook is a 37188, it's the only light wire wide gap that would fit. If you wanted the heavier wire wide gap the mold would have to be modified because of the thicker wire, and I don't know how many would take the chance with that mold.
And here's another big problem - Alot of the newer Do-It mods now have a warming chamber on the bottom of the mold which prevents the use of larger hooks, which would require a really big mod to the mold to grind off the area of the warming chamber. That's why I personally like the older Do-It's that were open on the bottom.
Also the new catalouge doesn't show a picture of the inside of the mold the way they used to, so you have to write alot of emails to get a photo of one to see if it 's got that warming chamber. I bought the 1/32 and 1/16 no collar horse head mold and frankly it bites. The top has four pour holes -and when you flip it over it has four more for the other size. There is NO room for larger hooks and if you mod it for larger hooks you have to cut off the bottom edge of the crane swivel slot, Then you'd have to make sure that it didn't fall out before pouring.
Fatman,I really don't care if they are barbed or not.Thank's for the head's up on the jig swap section,I will check it out.
the ones ps fish sells are barbed
the 37188 is the hook i am referring too, how much would a hundred pack cost me with just the hook poured on a 1/16 barbed head with just the swivel installed?
if i got to buy a couple hundred that would be fine too if the price is reasonable.
I have the 1/16 mold w/o barb and the swivels to fit. Send me the hooks that fit and we can work out the details for a trade of some kind. Let me know. You can PM me and exchange phone numbers.
