Help a brotha out.

Thought about putting this on the electronics forum but decided it might give some of y'all gewbs a distraction from your recent bickering and infighting.:rolleyes:

Here's the deal: I have a MK 3 bank charger, 3 green lights indicate all batteries are hot, 3 yellow lights indicate charging, red equals trouble. In the past I would come home from a full day of fishing, plug up, and have two yellow and one green. Two yellows indicating the two batteries running my trolling motor. The green would be cranking and electronics which doesn't get depleted enough to need charging on a typical day.

Couple months ago I replaced all my batteries. Ever since, I get home from fishing and have one yellow and two green lights when I plug in. I metered my trolling motor receptacle and am getting 24v. Can't understand why only one battery would need charging after a full day of trolling.

I also have a MK 3 bank and had the same problem you describe... replaced that battery because it would reach 12.50 but would not stay high enough for the charger to see it was going to maintain the voltage the charger required. unplug the charger and it would drop a few tenths... Now with new battery, all green...
By the by, I swapped the leads on the TM bats to see if it would follow leads or batteries. battery was the problem..

Might need to bring in the pro's.

You would think that the new batteries would be less depleted, but after a full day of fishing you'd at least get them both down to register yellow.

I'd double check your jumper wire for tightness and corrossion for sure. Have you noticed less juice than you think you should have? Meter both batteries before and after charge and record the specific voltage and let us know. As well as specific voltage at the TM receptacle. I'm thinking you might have a problem with the charger and not the batteries, but the timing of the new batts would point to the batts. Then again, their may be no problem at all or just the voltage sensor in the charger malfunctioning to indicate green....which is not good. Voltage sensor is needed to control the charge cycle on the charger.

Your new trolling batteries may have a higher amp/hour rating and aren't being drained as fast as the old ones. Green is good.

It shouldn't be draining just one though.

Looks nice...cept for the E-tec! Yamaha or Merc, in that order.

feelay, we have a mk 3 bank charger, sometimes after a day of fishing it shows a full charge on all 3 batteries!

Change your leads for 24 hours. You probably have a bad battery.

Did you check the fuse on the charger leads going to the batteries?

You're supposed to get a red light for a bad battery on the MK charger.

My Dual Pro did that and it was one bad cell in one of the batteries. New don't make them bullet proof but it should.

I agree one bad cell.Try charging them one at a time with a regular charger.

Check your charger to make sure it is putting out right amps on charge. We had a 3 bank mk and one lead was bad. If your bought new gel batteries make sure the charger willcharge them, not all chargers will charge amg battries.

Check the batteries with a amp meter not plugged in to the charger. After plugging in the charger see if the read 5 or 10 amps higher depending on the charger. If all batteries read 5 or 10 amps higher the charger is fine. Batteries sometimes new ones will be bad. I didn't figure this out Nic did when I was having issues with my cranking battery. I can get Exide batteries for 68 bucks through Nics work if you need one. 31 series if I remember correctly.

this would be my first step...............know what each batt is before and after with a meter.
