What techniques does everyone use when fishing after a cold front moves through?
I usually hang around the house for about three days, then fish like I was fishing before the front! :D
Dennimite seems to work ok. Strickly a rumor though. Creek says it works everytime.
I will fish a little deeper and as close to cover and in cover as I can get. Also slow slow slow. I will go to the bottom and instead of short jig up and down, I will not jig at all. I will slowly raise it up a foot and stop. Let set and slow raise again and stop. No jiggin
If you do go, what BillyE said, and if your spider rigging, same thing. Stay tight to the cover or structure, and go slow slow slow.
Slow and small. No mater what fish I am going after go smaller on bait size. And slow it way down.
Down Size use a split shot above a smaller jig head to get down but still present a smaller bait in deeper water, try minnows, fish tight to cover, and ohh ya go slow...
I'm sure it's good advice, but I'm kind of with ski trip about waiting the 3 days.
Make it easy on yourself.......wait three days then back at 'em!!
Well if you at least try and are able to find them then you have just improved your chances the next time it happens and build off of it.
Some of us cant' wait 3 days
well.....who went this morning? I was gonna but my little one had me up late last night and was just too tired to go this morning. Ended up doing a BUNCH of work around house, so it wasnt a complete wash.
Yea, I had much rather be fishing but it IS a good time to catch up on the "honey do's", then change out line and re-rig rods...clean boats in and out...organize tackle....grease trailer bearings and then be ahead of the game and ready for serious action when the bite starts back up. Just changing out line on all the rods takes quite a bit of time and that is something I have been putting off for a month even though I bought the bulk line two months ago. All of these things have been accumulating because I have been fishing or getting ready for deer season the past several weekends so a cold front is a good excuse to lay off a weekend and get caught up and reloaded. Seriously, I've caught fish behind a front but it is usually a slower bite.....the odds are against you. But believe you me, when everything is caught up and ready, I have and will fish daylight till dark for three fish, lovin' every minute of it.
As hot as it's been down here the cold front is gonna be what it takes to get 'em going. Fish have been pretty lathargic in that hot water we've had and a quick cool down is gonna get 'em started. How many days afterwards is the question though.Doh
Has it been 3 days yet? They sure bit today.
I wasn't on the water. That's why they bit.
I agree with creek, they bit today
Pics coming tomorrow.
I'll wait......impatiently.
My dad went on Degray today and caught 12 nice ones, plus a couple of bream and four bass. I think they're about to turn on there.
figures........Like RCC, i didnt fish....thats why they were biting
Crankbaits.
What if a cold front comes in every three days?
Swamper, it is usually slower for about 3 days after a cold front. That does'nt mean the Crappie quit biting. Just fish closer to the bottom and slow down tight to cover. I took ss2004 fishing after the first major cold front and we caught a good mess but had to work to catch them. The deeper fish are usually less affected by fronts. Don't skip bad days, fish whenever you can. If you fish the tough days it will make you apperciate the good days more and make you a better fisherman. Good luck and keep your jigs wet.
I caught a mess on Sat. I fished brush piles and would draw the jig up to the tip of the pole to place it into little holes in the pile. The #52 meatgetter jig tipped with a small minnow was the ticket.
here is some that slabgetter83 and i caught after a the last cold frontAttachment 70079
Heck yea!! Thats a mess especially with that flathead!!!
Nice Mess of Fish Arky Fishing. Love It
I think Crappie Pro and friends must have cleaned Dardanelle out of any large crappie. LOL Went out yesterday evening and only caught minnow looking crappie. Same spots I'd been catching good ones. Could it be because of the cold front? I tried going slower, near the bottom, etc.......Nothing.
Crappie Pro gottem! ;)
