Bluegill

Hi,

Me and Kincade from the board did some fishing today at a buddies pond....The bite started off slow during the morning...We where just casting out and letting the slip bobber sit still...I think I caught two nice size bluegill this way...But, I decided to twitch slash drag the slip bobber a few feet and let it sit for a second...After letting it sit a second I would repeat it again...This techinque the bluegill really seemed to like...Once they did hit it?...The bluegill didn't mess around ..Usually the bluegill would run off with it......Oh by the way we where using just chunks of nightcrawlers...I ended up catching eight nice size bluegill..With the two biggest being 9inches...We didn't weight them...We also caught some green carp but they didn't have too much size to them....This is really the first time I tried twitching the bobber/dragging the bobber and letting it sit...I was really suprised how good the bluegill responded to this techinque....I am going to try and post some picture of our stringer sometime tomorrow...

When we're fishing shallow for bluegill, we use a similar technique and you're right - it results in an aggressive strike. We'll do a controlled depth retrieve with a micro craw or frog jig, a fly tipped with a waxie or just a piece of worm or a grub on a small baitholder hook. Works great and it's a lot more fun than sitting and watching a bobber all day. - Roberta

I use this same technique for goggle-eye's and it seems to drive them crazy. It also works good on crappie when they are tight to a grass line.
Only thing I do different is that I am usually using jigs.

Goggle eyes are made by Grizzly jigs right?...What colors do you most success with?....Also, do you use a weighted bobber or a slip bobber?...

in looks ... but, two different fish, actually. Rock Bass & Warmouth are very similar in looks, and they both are often referred to as "Goggle Eye".

The rock bass looks like what we call redeyes in VA.

Man are you guys way off base. He's asking about the jig called google eye not the fish. Its a jig the mansfields make at grizzly, that has little beads in the eyes on the jighead. They produce a rattle sound when you shake them.:rolleyes:

I Googled up the info on the Goggle Eyes, and to find the Google Eyed Jig by Grizzly :eek: :D :D ........ it's all good info, Brother Chaunc, threads just have a way of wandering thru many different "related" subjects ... LOL!! ...... luck2ya ... cp :cool:

I got the chance to fish an oxbow lake off the Altamaha River in southeast Ga. this past Friday. I can't remember the last time I caught copperhead bream so big. I was fishing with crickets under a cork with no sinker. Just let the cricket sink from its own weight and when it reaches the right depth, you better hold on. If you fish this river you better get your poles ready. The river is falling fast and the bream bite is heating up.

I like using the corkless (float/bobber/etc.) method with a split shot and a #4 gold Aberdeen hook w/a mealworm. We cast them out and let them sink watching the line...if it reaches the bottom w/o a hit, we drag it in slowly and they will straighten the line out before you can go 5 ft. This is done on shallow flats when they're spawning...mainly on Toledo Bend.

We do use a tight line w/corks when they're suspended in the Sandy Ridge area of TBend and try to bring them in with one hand! Some you just can't do it and have to use your other hand with the cane pole. Love those Bull Bream!!

Hey guys, i found a new "secrete weapon"...here it is. its a little 1" long crankbait from bass pro shops!!! i got about twice as many on it than on worms!! get some, they are AWSOME!!

Sorry for the confusion but the guys are exactly right. The Google-eye's I was talking about is the fish. It is the warmouth. I thought the rock bass and the warmouth was the same fish, thanks for clearing that up for me crappiepappy.

come on man you cant lead on like that. Whats the name? Please?

I have had good luck on ponds with the yozuri snap bean. Replace the hook with one slightly larger and it will susspend, use a stop and go retrieve and hold on.
