The Slabs Of Lake Dardanelle/9-13-11
I woke up at 3:30 AM excited about my Trip to Lake Dardanelle, get equipment ready, Hook up the (Dark Angel) My boats name, drink coffee and make the drive from Lake Conway to my (Second Home) Lake Dardanelle. On the road at 5:00AM I called my Good fishing Buddy RTARK (he always rises up with the rooster) I told RT I have a boat seat open if you wanna meet me at Ouita boat ramp. We launched and were fishing by 6:45 AM. The weather had several changes from overcast and periods of light rain, to wind and light rain, calmness, and then partly cloudy to sunny in the afternoon. We found sunken brush piles along the edges of the main river channel from 20-7 feet deep. We had tried several other spots but quickly realized this was the only pattern we could put together. We dropped 1/8th oz painted jig heads with 2-3 inch bright colored soft plastics into the brush and it was a thump fest to say the least. Ill bet we caught 75 crappies but only kept 25 keepers and about 10 I would call Slabs, and two catfish. The fish bit fair in the morning, very slow from 1-4 PM and they bit good two hours before dark. LOL I had to talk RT into staying for the late evening bite. It was a long hard day on the Lake but with persistance we both caught several slabs and was able to put together a Good Catch. RTARK it was a blast as ussual and allot of fun watching you pull the last big slab of the day out of the brush. Until our next adventure my friend. Take Care...
