I'm gonna start making some crappie jigs for this Fall. I read some where but can't find it. Wich is better in the Fall, Marabou or Kip tail, or does it not matter at all?

I like marabou in the spring and fall, but early spring I like kip tails. I have some that like kip tails all the time though.
It's a personal preference thing.
Skip
we use both materials all through the year we seem to do quite well the fish really do not have any preference in our location is they do strike a wide variety of jig patterns and materials to be used like skip this is my own preference it may vary from place to place on the material that you use but in the snake River it doesn't seem to matter.
Always been 50/50 for me, but you keep trying until you find what they want.
you really need to have both in my opinion.
I tie them both and always have some of each in the tackle box. The crappies tell me what they want on a particular day. I like marabou or plastic though.
kiptail for me but they will all catch em
I agree with skip its a personal thing I think also. I have also read that marabou has more action in colder water than hackle. My self I like hackle.
I would also make sure I have both. Profile, action, air holding, different fishing techniques, and everything else, as well as confidence all play a role. Never hurts to have something different when your go to's seem gone to's.
Strictly opinion of a greenhorn here, and one with carpal/cubital tunnel in both wrists/elbows, marabou is much easier for me to handle (when tying), and personally I like the action of it in the water the best.
I agree with those who say it's best to keep some of each. Be careful as you start to carry this little of each though. If I get much more little of each I'm gonna have to hire someone to carry it all. Someone with a BIG wagon.
ALso let me add one thing to what I already said. I think the kip tail jigs do best in colder water coming out of winter and just feel crappie are not interested in lots of action at that time.

Craft fur is easy to use and comes in a rainbow of colors.I use it almost exclusively.
I use Marabou mainly for crappie and kiptail for gill and sunfish. Gill tend to pick off all the marabou nipping at it. If I HAD to make a choice I'd take Kiptail, love the stuff.
Thanks,
Nate.
one other thing, when I use a kiptail jig, it is almost always with a minnow or peice of worm trailer. I make them all hair and a painted head, thats threadneck style I think they call it. when fished like this, it's an all year long bait. and it's a big fish bait too.
Been using kip tail and buck tail for about 50 years. Tougher material than feathers. Course, I'm not fishing waters with a lot of clarity to them. Dingy water mostly. Mississippi has not been known for it's clear waters.
Hmmm. My water is ALWAYS stained at best, but I river fish, and I have more luck w/ bou bc of the action. Don't worry about it's toughness much. Gators only like the corks or me and Gar the same bc I'm not much on minner fishing.
I think it's more of how your fishing your jigs
