I was looking at those too recently. I will be trying out my new minnow bucket this weekend. Went to local Academy Sports store ( I cant find them on the stores website and may go buy a couple more just for back up). Found dove bucket with cooler insert and rotating seat. Changed the seat out to a bait bucket lid with the air pump included. Took the insert for the cooler lid with a tray and flipped it over and put it back in the bucket. Kinda tight. Push it in slow and level till it meets cooler bottom. Take long sharp knife and cut what is now the top of the cooler insert to match the flip up lid and air hose. Bucket is now 85% insulated top to bottom. All for WAY less than you can buy them anywhere I can find. May save you a few $$. Grizzly Jig says they have the Styrofoam inserts for 5 gallon buckets. May can get one and use a bucket you already have?

holic, I must have deleted out the model of stuff that you have that you had sent me in a pm. Do I want to go with anything less than 5 gal ? I know I want a insulated bucket and not sure if I want to go 12v or batteries. I like being able to move the bucket around with using batteries. Just wish there was somewhere round here I could go and get this stuff, nuttin here in Iuka for sure. Anybody know if anyone in Tupelo might carry these bait aerator setups ??

Thank shine, hadnt thought of that but I have a dove bucket in my shop that has never been used if I remember right :) and all I would have to add is an aerator :) Yep that just might do it :) thanks again

Kinda like the hard top on the first one. Also the latching top so wind dont rip a top off. The second one can be bought cheaper at Walmart. Like the third one best but just too dang expensive for what youre getting IMO.

Maachuu the one I use is a 5 gal bucket that has been fancied up made by bait bubbles I think
-
I did find it on Academy's web site. Here it is............. Academy - Evans Sports Woodland Sports Bucket

Thanks Tman, ok since I have the bucket with the styrofoam already in it, why cant I just get one of these like Shine did and make it work ? Is there a draw back to the dove bucket or the styrofoam in it ? here is 2 different tops that I found. pretty good price difference in them and not sure if they higher priced one is the better of them
Bubbles Livewell Top Combo Pak
Cabela's: Marine Metal Products Bubble Top Aerator

Academy - Marine Metal Products 5-Gallon Bucket Lid with Aerator
This is the one I use. Easy on batteries. I will be changing over to th 12v pump soon. I hate to buy batteries for anything.

u can get a frabill areator that will run on batteries or 12 volt,i got mine at grizzly jig
-
I've got the first one, it will hold 4-6 dozen, I like the latch,
Top won't blow off running down the lake. It will leak a little
Where the tube go's through the box. The air will push it
Back through when pressure builds.
Best Minner keeper i've ever had!!!

Cranks or jigs. Don't need no minner bucket.
-
Ats rite, Maj,,,,, We hate minners, huh??Hands Clapping

-
Yeah, I used to be one of those 'MinnerGuys', but saw the lite an moved on..
What day did you say??
-
Major, did I hear you say the "j" word? Sounds like you are working on becoming a dual threat. First a fishing partner, now jigs.
-
It's my fishing partner that is converting me to jigs. But he's a cranker too. That's what's makes us deadly.
-
Guys, I can tell ya this I aint gonna get my butt kicked by nothin and not try it or use em. If cranks is where its at, I'm crankin. If jigs is where its at, I'm jiggin. If MINNERS is where its at, I;m MINNERING!!!!Thumbs Up

Ok here goes. Get you a big insulated (5 gallons or more) with aerator for the bulk of your minners. I keep this water very cool with ice. Then have you a smaller bucket to fesh out of. Put lake water in the smaller bucket with no ice. You can aerate this smaller bucket or not. I normally keep 2-4 dozen minners in the small bucket. By keeping lake temperature water in the smaller, it acclimates the minners to the temp and they will stay livelier on the hook. Yea, ya hafta get up and get minners more often this way, but you wont lose many at all. Trust me on this one.
And WB has the proper aerator set-up in his boat. I will have one of these soon.
-
Whenever you decide on the make model and serial number of this minnow bucket, do yourself a favor...remove the liner and put a liberal coat of clear, waterproof silicone inside the bucket and replace the liner and let it cure. That way, WHEN the liner leaches water or if it developes a leak, it wont rise up and try to push your lid off the bucket.
Wannabe...

Get you a 5 gal water cooler attach a 12 volt power bubbles. I use a jumper box or 12 volt converter for powering. Works great and should last for years.

Thanks minner, got a bucket already (dove bucket like Shine runner did) and ordered me a top for it, I have a smaller bucket I can just throw me a aerator in for using around the boat :)

Thanks WB, I was thinking about puttin silicone in the bucket to hold the styro but was sure ifn it might not kill the minners.
-
That's why I mentioned clear, waterproof silicone.....that cheap non tub and tile stuff sure as shootin' will. Be sure to let it cure for a good 24 hours too.
You got any idea how long it takes to dig 6 dozen graves 2.5" long and 6' deep? I do....thanks to trying to cut a corner.

You don't want anything less than 5 gal. The unit I use can be put on any 5 or 6 gal bucket. I don't use the styrofoam insert because water gets under it and will push it up. If you keep adding ice every now and then, the water will be cool enough. I also change the water every time I leave the lake. The unit I use is Marine Metal Products "Bait Saver". The # is PB-5. They run about $50.00 for the areator. The whole rig with top, areator and bucket runs about $65-70 dollars. I have used the same one for years. I have only had 1 break with me and that was because the shaft broke because the water froze.

Why not do like the rest of our other country friends----- 1 mass grave for everybody?

i went to walmart, got a midsize cooler with a handle from end to end. drilled a slit in it to place my aerator, then drilled a hole on the top to run my air line through and connect to the aerator. works wonderful, and i never lose minnows. will post a pic if you want.

Nothing works better than a cooler.
