Spider rigging or crankin'?
Spider rigging and I wasn't on bottom or around stumps.
Prob. hitting stake beds
Have heard they is alot of stake beds plant up there, maybe.
Definitely gar. It's happened alot to me since I've switched to minners this summer.
Loc ness. I'm sure of it. I seent ole Nessy out there last October. Start using 3 oz sinkers doin 2.2 mph at a 40 degree angle. She hates it
Sounds like you need to replace a bunch of dry rotted old line!
Doubt it was a gar. I've caught a many of em over at Chotard and never had one break my line, EVER. Tell ya though, when was the last time you changed your line? If it's breaking that easy, you best change it
Braid
More than likely it was a small catfish.
im switching to braid on my crank poles. have lost three cranks in the last three weeks to............something!!!!!
ROTTEN line!
I'm with sat. I bought a spool of bad line and itd sure dive and when ya grab it nothin came up with it but a swivel
I don't know could be bad line, but all my rods have new line was put on in the spring.Besides I caught some catfish saturday that would weigh 5to6lbs.How often do yall retie? That might be the problem,I only retie when it brakes.
I used to do that. Between grenada tourney and enid, line got real brittle. If it gets in the sun more that a day or two, I'd retie
I didn't read far enough. Rotten line. How long have you had the line?
Is it breaking at the knot maybe?

The line I bought was 8 lb and I could break it by hand easily

Rees I don't think so.I was hoping others had that problem at Butla saturday. But i think most were pullin cranks tho.
I would check the line too. Could've been another 4 pound crappie you lost but probly just a big ol gar or catfish.
Did somebody say braids?Attachment 68181
Big C didn't happen to me sat but had the same problem about 3 weeks ago down there. I was breaking off on my dropper lines. Mainly the one on top tied to 3 way. Had new 6 lb and as they broke retire with new 10 and still had a couple break off. Retied all the ones on my poles with 10 lb trilene extra tough before tourney and didn't loose any. I use braid on main line and mono on Riggs. I'm thinking big cat fish and his rough teeth on that small line.
