Nice looking jigs Skip! I have a question about the black light pics....do they show what a jig looks like underwater? Or just a different method of taking pics?

The Black light show what humans can't see. Fish can see UV colors and FLO colors different then we do since they can see UV. I can't tell you exactly what they see, but they have more cones and rods it their eyes than we do so they see many more shades of color than we do. Also in crystal clear water regular colors will only penetrate so far then become something else. Example is the colors that can be seen farther than any other is Blue and Violet which will go about 40 feet. Now UV colors will penetrate the same wearer something like 700 feet. I have read and looked this stuff up for years and some old articles I can't find any longer, but other are there and new ones come. All credible articles clearly spell out how UV & FLO colors do something different than regular colors. The only way we humans can even show something different is by using aBlack light which will make these kind of colors glow. Let me find an order I have sent out that I have a pic of that will have some of these colors and some regular colors which don't do anything in the Black light.
Well I have better ones, but not ready to post so this will still show what I mean. Notice the bottom right jig you can't even tell what color it is and the rest light up like crazy because they are all Fluorescent. Glad I looked again, also all the top left jigs you can't see the head color because it's also not UV or FLO.

I have another example I did for someone. Here is a 1/32 Oz. Jig head I painted Silver, then I coated it with some UV stuff and here are pictures of it after coated in regular light and then Black Light.

Skip that is really cool picture of the jig head. Will have to experiment as I am back to almost 100% powder paint. The jigs are nicely done my only question is what happened to the jig with the neon pink head??

There you go, raising the bar again. great lookin jigs. Here lately where I fish the natural colors are working extra good, and the bright colors aren't doing as well for me. Been kinda slow mostly, but that will change in a few weeks.

Thanks guys,
My Pink heads light up too, but any regular color can have UV added and look the same in regular light, but light up under a black light.

Thanks guys! I started looking into UV a couple years back and have a couple of ways to turn any color jig head into a UV color. It's a shame we can't see UV like most fish can.
Let me ask you guys a question or two about fish and their vision, well I will just ask and answer both. First lets look at muddy water where we can see 6" or less, hoe far can say a bass see in that? How about 5' to 7'? Amazing huh? Mad in stained water, not like where we can see 3' down, but less, how far can a bass see? How about something like 14' to 17'. Fish have so much better vision that we do it's hard for us to know what they see in reality. Lets take red which is the first color that we say loses it red color which I forget, but not very deep at less than 10' (if I remember right and in clear water) and yet people still catch fish on a jig with a red body in much deeper water. I know we have all seen people talk about red and how it can not be seen deep so they don't use it a lot in more than shallow water, well I tied some jigs for a friend that came here last month and killed the crappie on a jig that was Black/Red/Chart. Now no way to know what or which color motivated the fish to hit, but they did. I prepose that just because red turns to a gray or some shade of that how can we know what a fish sees? I say now way since they have the ability to see so many more shades of colors than we all we can do is try a color or any color and see what happens.
I hope you guys enjoy my little thoughts & think about them as I have given this so much though and time reading and just thinking about this stuff I am convinced we have no clue other than we know they like Chartreuse and some other colors we have had success with and probably a lot of it because we have confidence in them. No telling how much better we would do if we had confidence in what we use no matter what the color is. What do you think? Lots of time we gain confidence in something just because we got a fish to hit it before we lost confidence in it and other the other side we lose even wanting to use a bait just because someone was catching fish and we were not for a few minutes.

You are so right Skip. The fish can see in water very well and will hit colors that you would not think would work for the water color you fish. I do believe that smell and movement plays a big roll while fishing muddy water but I have seen color choice that the fish will bite change from one year to the next. Two years ago I was fishing muddy water and a chart/chart/pearl tail was the very best jig all spring (dark water, dark jig?). Well I made sure I had lots of those jigs for the next spring. Fishing the same places and muddy water the fish wouldn't touch that jig. A black jig or orange/orange/chart tail was the killer bait. LOL it does pay to have many colors with you. I always have 6 boxes of jigs with me with many different colors and if the fish are not biting I will change colors all day to catch em. I would love to be able to see UV colors, it would be a different world for us to see!

Skip, those are really cool pics. I did not know about the UV stuff.

Thanks!
Yes important stuff to know, but don't get me wrong I am not saying a UV or Flo jig will catch more than a regular colors, but I am saying at the very least the jig will be seen better in every condition. Also I do believe it helps in many cases and times. Some times I think you can catchy them on most any color and sometimes not so much.
