Which 2 weekends will you be busy?
Looks like weekends sept 17 and 24 for the hunt. That would leave weekends of 3 or 10 of sept. for a camp.
I have a suggestion. If we have a gathering , how about a jiggin tournament with everyone drawing for partners so newbies have a chance to learn something? What do ya think ? Either that fish any way you want but limit every boat to say 4 hooks in the water? Just a thought.
I am free all the weekends except the 24th.
sounds like a good idea to me .
Sounds like a plan to me.Sept. 3 sounds even better. Was hoping to get over there this weekend, but may be a little quick. I got my boat in piles of little screws, and wiring.
Sept. 3 is Labor Day weekend if that makes any difference.
Im in just let me know!!
Count me in.
Please state your preference for weekend of the 3 or the 10. I can be there either weekend , Saturday and Sunday as I live 4 miles away. Does a Draw buddy tournament sound good with everyone? If so add your ideas for rules as time, # of hooks used, size and # of Crappie , big Crappie pot , and maybe a trash fish pot (anything other than Crappie)ect. Lets get the ball rolling and get a plan together. Maybe we can get some extra tournament prizes if we can get the plan going soon enough.
i will pick the 10th since the 3rd is a holiday weekend. i would try and place fisherman together with one thats filmiliar with the lake an ones that not.
I think it's a great idea, and any other time I'd be there. Got my 50 year class reunion weekend of the 3rd and leave for Florida the weekend of the 10th. Do it, and have a great time!
Only fair way would be a drawing, even if it meant that non boater chose boater accordding to draw. Say put non boaters in a hat and first drawn gets first choice of boater or just draw 1 boater and 1 non boater each and that would be a team. The first option could place new to Nimrod guys with knowledgeable fishermen as they could choose if they are lucky on the draw.
i am in.
I forgot but Carter Cove Campground on Sept.10. We should plan details on what to bring for the fish fry and rules for a tournament.
Nimrod, Arew we going to need a permit or anything from the core, since it is a tournament?
I think the 10th would be the best day.
Let the non boaters draw first, then the boaters
4 hooks sound good
10 inch min.
Big crappie pot sounds good
Is this going to be a 1 or 2 day event?
What about chargeing $5 entery fee. Part of this could go for the supplies for the fish fry, the rest would be for the first three place winers?
How about 10.00 entery per fisherman fee with optional 5.00 big Crappie pot. We pay by the team for 1 & 2 places and 3 rd if 10 or more boats. Everyone can bring something for fish fry that attends. I can start a list and folks can put names beside what we need. Tournament and fish fry Saturday , but folks can fish and hang out rest of the weekend that camp.
10th sounds less crowded maybe
Thanks for trying to put something together nimrod. Here is Just my thought but why would you limiting number hooks in the water. Why the two pole per person limit. I dont think a pole limit is fair. If the idea is to teach people our methods then dont limit them to the way you fish. There are people who troll crank baits with six rods and spider rig six and eight rods. Do the crappie tournaments limit poles to 2 per person? This is not a big tourney I understand but if the idea is a get together and teach each others methods then why limit them?
Then if point is to have a gathering of people to learn different techniques may be a good idea do away with money part. I fish 8 pole, some 6 and some 2 poles what is fair is we all love to fish no matter what and how you do it shouldn't matter. My question is does the Crappie tournements have limits on poles when money is involved? Just my two cents but I personally am not gonna drive 3 hours to a lake and handicap myself to fish someone elses technique of 2 poles. I guess I misunderstood the point of the fish fry get together let's learn from each other of part.
Maybe we should just drop the tournament then. The main thing is Crappie camp. I spider rigged as a kid but quit years ago. You can catch literally hundreds in a days time in a spider rigged boat if you want. Not unusual to catch over a 100 in a day jiggin. I just thought if we limited it to 4 hooks or poles per boat it would be more sporting. Just my thinking but we we used to troll 18 poles in the 70's. That just seems like seine'n fish today.
We could debate sporting all day nimrod but won't get into that. Many ways and utensils can be used to skin a cat. No one way better than another as long as its skinned. I have many a days that trolling 8 rods is a job with all the hangups, break offs, entanglements that I can find and still can't catch hundred fish. We can only keep a limit no mater how you fish. Dropping the tourney may be good idea if the point is to teach different methods to folks. But if its a tourney then that is another thing but hard to combine both imo and given the fact that nimrod is several folks home lake. So who is really at the disadvantage the guy with 8 rods or 6 who has never been on it or the one with 2 poles that fishes it regularly? Just a different perspective on how I was looking at the get together. I know I could teach folks a lot as well as learn a lot. Just ask Crappie pro who learned said he learned more in one hour trolling with me. I in return plan to come fish his home lake and learn his methods. I wish some crank bait guys would come and show me there methods. But with a 4 hook limit then I guess they couldn't even pull one bait. I Don't get the comment sporting either and the reference to 100 fish caught trolling. Just sounds like you don't like the trolling method of fishing. Just be careful because some people may think baiting a hole with dog food or feed every day and catching limits of catfish off it is unsporting. Bottom line is no matter what legal method you use to catch a legal limit of fish is sporting. Some methods may be easier on any given day but they all have obsticles.
I was just trying to make an even field and have fun. But pull'n crankbaits , spiderriggin , minnow dunkin, or jiggin can be good methods. My idea was to pair folks with the locals. Just because you can catch 100 does'nt mean you keep more than a mess. Last trip I was on we caught way over 100 but only brought in 33. No different than bowhunters thinking rifles or crossbows unfair deer hunting. If you troll a bunch of crankbaits here be prepared for hangups.
I think both of you have stated you opinions, and maybe should let it go . It sounds like you two may be gettin a little upset. I don't thik that what either of you want. Why don't we pole everyone that's going fish at the get together and see what they want.
Just my opinion. Let's go for Biggest Crappie. Entry fee of ___ per person. Fish from ___am, to noon or 1:00pm. Weigh everyone's largest Crappie, and dump rest in hot grease. Pay out on 1,2,or 3 places.Let everyone fish however they like( as long as legal). The fellowship, and friends that come out of this will outweigh the money any day of the week. I have never fished Nimrod, only been to 1 Crappie build, and have met people over there, that will be friends rest of my life. We all have 1 thing in common, and no 3 of us are going to agree on anything(except eating and fishing) and leaving it better than we found it.
Anytime you fish for money you take the fun out of it. I vote we come over fish have fellowship and eat.
Sounds good to me.
Talking my language now.
Nimrod I hear ya on the deer hunting methods, baiting vs non baiting. I hope no offense was taken as none intended just voicing a different take on thr get together. Drop the tourney and all gather fish and have a fry is a great idea though. If i can make it, I would be glad to show how to spider rig and would like to know others techniques too. Do you guys have the brush shelters y'all put out in the lake?
I plan on pulling cranks.
