Ive used oppossum. And skiptomylou has also I believe..
skip can you post some pics of some of the things youve tied with, that isnt native to the USA?
Sasquatch hair Doh well, maybe it was really badger Thumbs Up
Got to watch the Cowboys now, but will look tomorrow for you. I know I also have at lead one that Don Ordes Tied with The Aussy possum. It's a lot more kinky and darker for the most part than our possum.
I have several other kinds of hair I intend on using like some Springbok which has some white hair that is long enough for a tail. I posted some done with Polar Bear also and ca re-do them. I know Don would love to have a whole seal skin, but so far only have some synthetic dubbing that is seal type.
Let me think on that too. Oh yeah also some nails off of a Jungle Cock cape, I have several. Also some CDL which is the oldest bird bread specifically for fly tying. I have a bunch from Whiting, but also some import through Hareline.
I will see what I have, LOL! Sometimes it's confusing to try to remember all of this stuff. Oh yeah also Hungarian Partridge os good stuff for soft hackle.
Skip
skip you sound like a kid a christmas....lol
I have a tanned skunk hide....maybe I'll clip a bit off it & tie me a stinker :p
Y'all know the red tear strip on a package of cheese The one that is torn to open it. Well one of my old time crappie jigs is tied with this as body material. It really looks neat. In the old days we would use the red tear strip off a Lucky Strike cigarette pack. But those days are long gone because Lucky's aren't even made any more. That is the most strange material that I have used. Have used about every type of hair and feathers that are legal and obtainable. Some would be illegal now days. Way back when It was about all wide open.
Sure wish I would have bought a ton of Polar Bear. I might have made a ton of money with it today.
Redman
.... it's easy to remember what I made it out of :
A long shank #8 hook - BB size splitshot sinker - "eye" section of a Peacock feather Thumbs Up (back about 50yrs ago)
Actually tied it on & used it ... and caught a 8 or 9 inch Bass on it Doh ... and I think it came apart, after that, so I never bothered to "make" any more of my own. Rofl
... cp
