Had the 570 DI since March this year. Have never been able to get it to work right. From what I read on this site, I'm not the only one. Have the range jumping issue. Will read correct depth then go to 72 ft or something else or will flash 572 or something else. Have tried the suggestion of setting the "surface clutter" to 3 and setting "water type" to fresh even though I live on a salt water creek with the water depth from 2 to 10 ft.
I would like someone who has a working 570 with good DI display to PLEASE post there 570 DI settings. This would give me a great baseline for troubleshooting my unit before I contact Humminbird or buy noise filters or special power cables.
Thanks for any help!

Ed,
What software version is in your 570c HD DI unit?
That should have been to change the Water Type menu to the “Salt (deep)” menu setting and use a Surface Clutter menu setting higher than what you are using now (possibly max it out).

Greg.......I'm not sure what S/W Version I have since I don't have the unit with me as I write this but I believe it is Ver 5.2. I bought the unit back in March or April from Gander. After I installed it I went through the setup per the manual and could not get the DI quality that was in the similator or the manual. I would turn it on and it would read the correct depth in the 0 - 10 range then after about 2 to 3 seconds would shift depth ranges to 0 - 100 and then go to 65 or 72 or 89 or whatever and then back to 0 - 10. This interval was about ever 2-4 seconds. When I accelerate to 10 - 12 MPH then it starts flashing and then goes to 565 or 898 or 723 or whatever and stay there at all speeds until idle. I would power it down and when it restarted it would repeat the same thing. However, I did notice that when the motor is not running, the ignition is on and the unit powered, I do not see the range changing from 0-10 to 0-100 and apparently reads the correct depth. I have a 2007 Evinrude E-Tech 60 HP O/B. The only difference is I did run the new 570 DI probe. I had a 575 previous to this and it worked great but did not give me the bottom image quality that I was looking for in the 570 DI. I also used the same power wire, water temp/speed probe and mount that I used on the 575. I basically removed the 575, ran the new probe connector to the base and plugged in the 570 DI.
I really frustrated! Not ready to pitch it overboard yet and go back to my 575 but I'm close.
That is the reason I asked someone who has successfully achieved the image quality that the 570 is capable of displaying to PLEASE post there settings so at least I can have a good baseline to start from. At least I can determine if I'm an idiot and cannot set it up right or the unit needs repair or I have a bad probe.
To answer your original ? I could only get "salt shallow" or "fresh" to display. In either mode it does the same thing. I'll give it another shot tonight. As I stated in my original post the water depth I operate in 90% of the time is from 2 to 10 ft. I'll set it to "salt shallow" and max out the Surface Clutter to see what happens.
Thanks for the reply.

Ed,
Check the software version in your 570 DI unit as there may have been an update since your unit was made. We will have to figure out how to get it updated if it has old software. Since your unit seems to do this when the main motor is running your problems could be main motor interference related. Go to this web page for some suggestions to test for and eliminate this: Humminbird: America
There should be a Salt (deep) menu setting for the Water Type, but I think that you need to eliminate the main motor interference first (if that is in fact what you have) as it can affect the unit’s ability to read the correct water depth as well as mess with the DI sonar readings.

Greg........S/W version is 5.250. I'm going to put the 570 on a separate power source and work my way forward from there to determine if noisey power is the problem.
I would still like you or someone, who has a properly functioning 570 DI, to post there setup settings.

Ed,
There has been a software update for the 570 DI unit but I’m not sure that is your problem. The unit should track the bottom correctly right out of the box with factory menu settings. I believe that your issues are caused by the motor interference. Get that under control and let’s see if the readings improve.

Greg.......I'll work the power in the next couple of days or this weekend.
So you are saying that once I get the power issue resolved and set the factory defaults that I should see real good bottom pictures. Is that Right?

We do on the company boat. You should be close to a real good bottom picture with those settings.

Greg.......went to troubleshoot the 570 yesterday and now things are worse. After power up, with the motor not running, I restored the "defaults". Powered down so defaults could be set then repowered. Got black screen with 0 -10 scale showing, no depth displayed and no scrolling. Only thing displayed was the water temp. Changed to white screen and still the the same. Verified "defaults" were set and still same result. Started motor and still have same black screen, no scrolling with incorrect depth displayed and flashing. Shut motor off and depth display disappears.
Going to call Humminbird today for RMA.

I have two of the 570's. Get them out of 'auto' and go to manual. Set for a white line bottom. At the depths you are in, set the sensitivity to about 5. Do NOT consider the digital depth accurate at those depths. I normally only see accurate readings of the digital depth display when I surpass 17-18 feet. You will also see a jump in the reading while in deeper water if you are above a slope. But as said earlier, at below 10', the digital depth display is of no real use. You can set the screen to show depth lines. I also run a contrast of about 8 which helps bring in a more detailed pic of structure and fish. (fish id off). Hope it helps.

Thanks for the info.
I believe my problem has gone past just settings now since I have a black screen and cannot get any chart scrolling even with the default settings.
Waiting for a reply from Humminbird.

I just made a PORTABLE install on my 570DI. I fooled around with it twice so far, and LOVE IT !
There are some GREAT tutorials on YOUTUBE with lots you can learn. I suggest checking them out, too .
Here is the video I made of my portable set up. I can put it on ANY vessel.
Sorry, reread your problem. I'm using the factory settings, and so far, no problems. I've read somewhere if you have it wired in with your trolling motor, you may have a problem.
Deborah, if that happens, what should I do ? Can you post your reply ?
I was out of the office Thursday/Friday. Will post you the Im details in an email now.

PDONA,
If you end up with trolling motor interference you should call the Humminbird Customer Resource folks at 1-800-633-1468. They will have several things for you to try but be aware: what works for one boat and setup may not work for another.
