Anybody fishing the CM tournament at the end of the month?
If they are still at 500 a team then no!
Think they lowered it to $300 per team, and made it an open tournament instead of an invitational.
Thats correct. It is $300 now and open.
Do you know how many times I can go fishing for 300 bucks ?
Hugh, if you pay the $300 and we take your truck and boat. I'll fish it with ya LOL
100% pay back?
That was my question, at this point I am not ready to fish one of these but was curious with it being an open tourney how that would work.
Let me stir it up a little. Been awhile. If it was $1000.00 I would be at every tournament. Of course assuming the payout would then be 50k to 75k. In my opinion fishing for anything less than 10k in the winning position is just fishing for fun.. Which I will do as well but I know It is just for fun and might as well be a $40 FJ.
Maybe it was bad economics classes at MSU but $300 tournaments with 50 to 70 boats means I have to win 22% (1 out of 4 to 5 tournaments) to cover expenses, not going to happen.
$1000 entry fees I have to win 6% (1 out of 16.5 tournaments) to cover expenses.
The ratio of expenses to entry fees is out of balance. If you prefish and actually do the due diligence to be competitive it cost 1000 an event on average in expenses. Now that is assuming you are going to travel fish and not sit on 1 lake and wait for a tournament to come to you.
I am not saying there is anything wrong with fun tournament fishing. I like it and I do it but it is not sound economically.
There let me have it.
First one>>> Not everybosy can afford to fish for $1000 dollar entry fees.. Answer if you are fishing for money you can not afford not to fish for 1000 entry fees...
Every CM or CUSA I have fished with pre fishing is 1100 to 1400 per event. The classic is more because more days spent fishing. Also the 100 % payback is not in cash, it is in donated goods.
This tournament is supposed to be 100% payback. That being said I don't work for CM and can't say for certain.
DD - I might would take you up on that offer if you were going to loan nessa out to me for the tournament but I can't justify taking you with the way your luck has been going!!!!
Crappie tournaments are for fun only! National crappie tournaments and casinos are a lot alike. They are both in the business to make money. These folks don't travel from city to city holding a tournament for their health. It will be like this until someone like FLW starts a tournament trail. When that happens, you will see wrapped boats and trucks everywhere with trolling rigs and BnM poles everywhere.
OK hugh, you got a point but in my defense, I make a mean Mater sammich LOL
Yep you guys are correct. You know most Regional FLW events entry fees are 750 up to 1500. Until this changes it is all about fun and bragging rights.. The tours have to make money and I think most paybacks now days are 100% there is just not enough in the 100% to make it a money show.
Yep Torch is correct..
In defense of CM, they pay out 100% of 100 boats or $10,000. 1st. place usually pays $4500 and then it drops drastically. They do add gift cards and trolling motors to the pot but as C68 says, until the entry fees are $1000+, you just fishing for fun. What we need is an Elite Crappie Series. 100 sponsored boats paying entry fees and expenses for the team. $150,000 per year and you got a crappie trail. Bass folks say crappie fishermen don't spend the money bass guys spend. Do y'all know of a bass fisherman that carries 20 rods with Shimano baitcasters on them?

Torch I know exactly what your talking about. As for this tournament it is being advertised as 100% payback. As I understand it the city of Greenville has given CM a large sponsorship check. The payout for this tournament is based on number of boats. Things may change by the time of the tournament but as of now I have to believe what is advertised. WE WILL SEE THOUGH!
Either way Brad and I came in 4th at the state championship at Grenada so we are playing with their money right now!
That is the best money to play with.. Good luck to you guys. You doing the Classic at Millbrook?
To say crappie fishing is cheaper than bass fishing at the tourney level is crazy. A bass fisherman has one bait in the water at a time and as a team Crappie fisherman have either 8 or 16. I used to not understand the attraction but have been bitten pretty hard by the summer time bug and am enjoying it alot but it is certainly not cheaper.
Yeah we are fishing the classic at Millbrook also.
