Painted Jig Heads

I have purchased a whole bunch of painted jig heads from Cowbellas recently and every single stinkin one of them has paint in the holes. I then purchased a rappela jig eye buster and that thing didn't work worth a hoot. Does anyone have any suggestions for this? When I was at Bass Pro recently, I noticed that most of their brand of painted jig heads did NOT have paint in the holes. Seems to be better craftmanship/quality control. I know that is what I will purchase from now on, but I hate to waste $50 worth of jig heads.

they have a couple different brands of jig eye busters. I typically use needle nose pliers. grab the hook eye with the pliers and twist front to back, this should loosen the paint up enough to be able to clean out the hook eye. you could also cut the hook off one of the jigheads, and use the shaft to clean out the eyes as well.

I use the eye buster that has red plastic on it. Cant remember thename but it works awesome. Its 2yrs old

I use both methods listed above, and both work well! The rubber handled eye cleaner PBUG uses is really good!

I use a heated bodkin, basically a needle with a handle, for the really tough ones.

I try never to buy these but will still come across a few from time to time. I usually get a little rough with a pair of needle nosed pliers. I sometimes use the cutter part just under the eye of the hook. Once the paint is broken the rest tends to come off a lot easier. If I don't have anything handy while I'm out fishing, I'll use another hook that's already dull and run it inside the eye until it is smooth. (it is time consuming, especially at the end of the day when fish are biting)

Youre just gonna have to bite the bullet and get those eyes cleaned out...but then look for jigs on CDC to buy. Lots of people pouring and painting jigs here. Great quality and you never get jigs with paint in the eyes.;)

I agree with gabowman about the eyes. I always clean out the eyes (drillbit) of the leadheads that I pour. I don't own a eyebuster.

I use the Mr. Twister drill bit. Runs on 2 AA batteries. I keep it in my tackle box.

I agree. It's much easier to clean them at the house than on the lake. I take an old jighead, heat it and straighten the hook. Then I sit down and heat the hook and punch through the paint. Much easier than doing it cold. In this day and time, though, there's no need to buy jigheads where they won't clean the eyes. Just my .02
