Does any body use long poles? I remember fishing with my dad as a kid using cane poles. I want to do that with my son when he is older (my daughter is a girly girl and won't go fishing........yet). Anyway I have been looking a lot at a Shakespeare wonderpole in either a 10' or 16' model. I was hoping for some feedback on what if any yuo guys use.

I have used em, like em better than a cane pole only cause they telescope. The 16 footers will probably be a little heavy for younguns to fish with comfortably, but the 10 and 12 footers should be fine.
I have a 12-foot wonderpole that I use from time to time for kicks. They work great. I got a 10ft BnM that has guides and takes a small spinning reel for dipping trees, and like it a lot better.... But the "cane poles" have their place in the fun category!
Telescopic poles are ideal for kids. As huntinslabs said, I think 16' is a little big for kids. I wouldn't go longer than 13'.
I have seven BnM Black Widows in various lengths. They have the perfect action, IMO.
Pick up a couple B n M breambusters for the kidos. You can get one around 10' and light as a feather. Perfect for what your looking for.
try hi-tec shooting star duluxe with guides, reel seat& padded handle comes in 10ft to 16 ft . they are cheap but a real good pole !!!!!!!!!!
I have used them, and I say stay away from Wonderpoles, especially the 16' and longer. They are way too heavy. I got a Shakespeare Durango 13', and I hate it, too. Way too much floppy in the end to land fish. I have a 13' and a 10' b'n'm Black Widow, and they are the greatest. Nice action, light weight. Excellent poles, and very inexpensive. I just got a 10' at Walmart for $6.46, and it is my favorite pole. Elegant, light, tight action, and short enough to get in tight places where there are trees overhead. IMHO, go with the Black Widow.Quote:

I travel a lot with work, so I bought a telescoping bnm pole. Thing is great. I just enough on there for the trip and when I get home refill the line if needed. Couple hooks and bobbers with some top water baits... Golden
Many years ago I bought my Father-in-Law a telescopic pole from Lew Childre called a Bream Buster. Lew Childre made some really nice rods back in the day. This line is no longer made, so they are a bit of a collector's item. Anyway, as my Father-in-Law is now in his 90's and no longer able to get out and fish he gave the pole to one of my Grandchildren. That little girl fell in love with that pole and loves to fish with it. Not to often you run across a fishing pole used by 4 generations of anglers.
I use several modified 12 & 13 poles. I did not like the front-heavy feel of the stock pole nor did I like the line going directly from the winder clips all the way to the tip eye. The 11 or so segment of loose line would find its way into tangling especially when windy.
I wrapped some thin lead sheeting (probably originally used as x-ray barrier) around the handle butt until it felt right in my hand. I then secured the lead sheet with tape. I can now set a pole on a boat bench seat, bucket or dock without worrying about it tipping forward into the water. An alternative is to pour molten lead into a 2 or 3 section of ½ or Ύ copper pipe and slip it into the butt (ya gotta pull of the rubber cap). I like the lead sheet solution much better.
To gain control of the line, I added a single-foot line guide to the forward end of each pole segment. I can still collapse the poles for storage or carrying.
Been meaning to reply to this post, but wanted to wait until I knew (by reading the info) how long my Master Bream was. Thought it was 16', but it's 18' (6 piece telescopic graphite). I like it, but admit I don't use it every time.
I have 8 cheap telescopic poles I glued eyes on and taped reels on that I use spider rigging. Not the fanciest...but it works well for what little I spider rig. All of mine are 13'ers and are real lightweight.
The winder clips are just for storing the line when you're done fishing. Are you tying the line directly to the winder clips and then running the line up to the tip?Quote:
