from catching fish. Story to resume after napThumbs Up
That's just wrong!
LOl! I know most of the guys on here rarely use bobbers, But I do especially during the spawn. Anyway what usually happens to me after a long day of fishing with bobbers, just as I am falling a sleep I will see a bobber being sucked under and nearly jump out of the bed setting the hook. This will happen several times before I finally get some sleep. With that said, I hope RCC is conflicted with this during his nap just for leaving us hanging!
05/31 pm arrive at destination Lake of the Ozarks. Check into condo. Look off of deck into water. See lots of bass, bream, and carp. Want to go fishing, but license not valid until 6/1.
Worked up appetite from telling story.
Will continue after light snack.
06/01/2011. License valid at midnight. Chose to wait until the crack of dawn to "catch" fish.
06/01/2011 am Dawn cracks slightly sooner than expected so the wife and I are on the dock armed with jigs and light spinning rod slightly after the crack of dawn. Wife commences to work on the blugills with a dana maxx and I cast multiple times with a crappie stinger in shad color. Finally rod bows up and immediatley I realize this fish is gonna be the biggest crappie I've ever hooked. After a few moments of an epic man vs fish battle I realize that this is not only my biggest crappie but possibly a world record crappie. After about 10 minutes I realize just how smart these Lake of the Ozark crappie are. The crappie I had hooked (which I nicknamed Houdini) had managed to unhook himself and place the jig in the mouth of a carp. Upon realizing that instead of my world record crappie, I was now hooked into a carp roughly one half the size of moby dick, I was left with the dilemma of what to do. After a 15 minute or so tug of war where the carp went any place he cared to go, he finally swam to the dock spit out some choice words something to the effect of "this outta show you meathead" straightened out the hook and went back home to momma.
Being a tough ole codger, I immediately went back to casting my jigs after a short 30 minute break, a couple of nitro pills, and a can of red bull. My wife in the mean time continued to snatch blue gill lips while I managed to hook 1 crappie which fell off when I picked him up.
AM fishing= Fish 2 fisherman 0. Plus have to listen to wife about catching more fish than I.
06/01/2011 pm Visit outlet mall and let the wife do a little shopping. After a few hours of shopping I was beat down, so I took a short 30 minute break, a couple of nitros, a can of red bull and I was ready to go. Wife suggested we go by Walmart and see if they had any live bait. The visit to Walmart resulted in the purchase of 2 little pre-packaged buckets of crickets that was also supposed to be a cricket dispenser. The Walmart employees said this was the first time they had received these. I was glad to be able to be one of the first to purchase such an item since I really enjoy being on the cutting edge of fishing technology from time to time. Armed with light spinning rods equipped with a small slip float and a #8 bream hook, we went fishing. Apparently these cutting edge crickets had not been seen by the local fish before and the fish immediatly went nuts over them. The wife made the first cast from the top of an 8 foot wall at the waters edge and immediatly hooked a 14 inch bass. Not being able to pull it up the wall, she walks it over/around/through down the dock ramp and gets it to the dock so I can lip it and turn it loose. We then began to catch big bream one after another on every cast. After a short time I hooked into what I realized was going to be the biggest bream I had ever hooked. After about 5 minutes, I realized that not only was the bream going to be the biggest I had ever hooked, it was probably a world record. After about another 5 minutes or so of an epic man vs fish battle, I realize just how smart these Lake of the Ozark blugill are. My world record bluegill (which I named Houdini II because of not being creative with names) had disconnected himself and placed the #8 bream hook in the mouth of a bucket mouth carp, no doubt snickering the whole time he did so. After another 10 minutes or so I was able to lay down on the dock and lip the fish.

Since I could see no one growing a garden that needed some fresh fertilizer, I released the bass to give some other fisherman a thrill.
We continued to catch and release big bream and it became a challenge to see if we could cast some place there was not a bream. We failed at this challenge, but still had fun anyway.
rc, you missed your calling. you should have been a standup comedian. you is one funny dude. i may name you houdini 111 for a lack of coming up with orginal names.
oh, and i'm glad you are enjoying your vacation.
06/02/2011 am THE OMEN
Again, I awoke shortly AFTER the crack of dawn since in Missouri dawn seems to crack slightly before dawns in Arkansas. I walked out on the deck to take in some morning air and the view.

While leaning over the rail a hummingbird with a green throat flew up and hovered right in front of me. After a few seconds, the hummingbird flew on up to my face and began to circle my head while I TRIED to remain motionless since I knew this was definately some kind of mojo in the works. The humminbird was so close, I could feel the wind off his wings and the sound was similar to sticking your ear to your weedeater while it is running. After a few moments I had an unsettling feeling that the hummingbird was about to stick that long sharp bill into my ear since my ears are large and flower shaped and seemed to be what the bird was attracted to. I moved, and the event was over. But what did it mean? It has been discused on this board about about butterfly mojo, chicken mojo, but never hummingbird mojo. Were we to catch lots of fish? Was I perhaps going to find a great deal on a new depth finder? Or was it simply that in my morning stuper had accidently used the wifes perfume instead of my anti-perspirant and I smelled like a pansy instead of a man. Time would tell.
I had spoken with guide Terry Blankenship after him being recommended by some good crappie dot com folks down on the Missouri end of the board. He agreed to to take us fishing on the morning of 06/02. Even though he is a great tournament crappie fisherman and an extremely likable guy with several corporate sponsors I did not know if he actually realized the challenge of what he would face on this day. My wife and I have managed over the years to completly shut down the bite on several small bodies of water, have caused monsoons and tornades at the end of July, and once completly shut down the bite on the Gulf of Mexico. If people knew it was us bringing the bad luck fishing, I'm sure we would be paid to stay away so good fishing trips would be had by all. I tried to keep this information hid from him, but I think he sensed a challenge and would pull out all stops to put us on fish. For years I was a closet minner fisherman, but after age set in, I would blatantly flaunt my minners openly for everyone to see. I told Terry this and he said we would not be using minners but would be casting jigs. I had never heard of such nonsense. Catch a mess of crappie on plastic and on top of that, cast the plastic out and reel it back in deep water. Nonsense is what I said, but Terry said I may stand a chance at learning something even though I was thinking I had passed the learning stage long ago.
The morning of the trip, Terry picked us up at the end of the dock in his boat and after a small disagreement over the minners I had attempted to smuggle onboard in a 2 liter mountain dew bottle, he convinced me to leave the live bait and we set out for some structure he had marked fish on with his 997 side imaging Humminbird the day before. We arrived and Terry rigged us up with some Bobby Garland jigs in various colors and showed me how to tie what he called the tournament knot which is blazingly quick and easy to tie. He demonstrated to us the technique and before long had both the wife, and I, catching suspended crappie with a spinning rod and jigs. We limited on 9 to 11 inch crappie and released a bunch more. The lake was calm and water temps were in the 80's. I had a great time learning new stuff and seeing neat electronics and catching a whole bunch of fish. The place we were staying had a really nice cleaning station.

Nice Fish RCC
RCC My man! You can definately spin a yarn!! I'm rolling here !Hands Clapping
RCC - Iam thinking about staying around our area this sunday. Have you been to Poinsett and fished our condos lately?
I've been twice since vacation and haven't fished condos either time. First trip I pulled cranks 1 pass down the lake while taking the wife to a bream spot. Caught 4 crappie and then wore the bream out. Yesterday I pulled cranks by myself and did OK. Work has been killing me. I think I put in 77 last week and this week has been tough also. Heading for lake Conway in a few minutes. Don't know if I'll fish or not.
