I'm no expert on fracking or geology but I imagine this could impact the fishing at Salt Fork in the future. From what I've read the chemicals used in the process are toxic and not well contained. I just can't believe they would do this in a state park. Apparently ODNR has its hands tied. :mad:
When I fist read the title I though it said to drink in parks. I thought that will make some folks happy

I don't know much about "fracking", but I am sure if you oppose it, it's not wonderful. That said, I'll give up my hobby if need to be make this nation stronger, in a second. We have been feminizing this nation to death. I may not be required by contract to die for my nation if need be anymore, but no contract is needed. I always try to put the interests of America over my own. Sometimes the minority must take a hit so that the majority may flourish. As I am so very ignorant on this point, I also may be full of it, but aside from more knowledge which may better inform my position, this is my current take on it. It is a pretty uninformed position, so my endorsement is tenuous at best, but it's where I currently stand.Quote:

I think that more than anything is the issue. The way it's done today the CEO's have it in their contracts that if sued, or if fined, the company picks up the tab for the CEO's malfeasance. They have no real incentive to do the right thing, and ethics are a thing of the past.Quote:

They should not pump chemicals into the ground period. I know it's done to break through the rock layers......but not good
There IS an alternative way to "frack"; it uses small amounts of explosives put into the pipe and detoinated; but it`s MUCH more dangerous to the drillers and apparently isn`t as "cost effective' as the chemicals; BOTH methods CAN (and HAVE ) also "fracked" the upper level shales that would optimely hold in the natural gas so more can be collected and sold. This is what causes the gas to enter the ground water table and is such a hazzard. It`s just not well enough understood yet to SAFELY do this around populated areas, because fracturing that shale can allow the local water tables to fall SIGNIFICANTLY; anyone want to pay to drill a 1,000+` deep water well?
If anyone has netflix and wants to learn more about fracking it's worth your while to watch "Gas Land". There is an interview with a big shot at the EPA that is fascinating.
An ironic consequence of even vertical tradional oil and/ or natural gas drilling is that there is often a minor to major subsistance (lowering ) of the elevation as the trapped deposit is removed. It is not always predictable, and where and how much depends on the underlying sub strata (shales, clays, sediment, shelves of bedrock, gravels, ect, ect) With modern ground penetrating radars it`s better understood than in the past, but still...Interestingly, read somewhere down South where oil was removed from a swampy area, and over several yrs later the area "settled" and actually created a deeper area that became a fine fishery! If it was done ACCURATELY (good luck with THAT !) you could selectively and EXCESS PROFITABLY deepen a shallow, algea choked local lake....did mention that apparently this technology also is now available from satalites? HMM...Get PAID to deepen a shallow potential summer cess pool (to the benefit of an entire local area) AND help FUND the Park`s recovery atleast...again, would DEMAND a concrete containment dome (North Sea type) and gravity shut offs a man can operate AND containment ON SITE before they drill 1`....
