I scuff them up with a pad I got from Walmart to help the paint stick. As for sealer, I have used Envirotec and currently am using Devcon 2ton which dries faster than the Envirotec

Thanks
could you use an automotive clear coat over the paint? I have been wanting to add some scales to some of my cranks and was just wondering.
I would think you could if you didnt have any reactions with paints and other sealers that are already on the baits. I have not tried any myself. torch, over in the craft dept at Walmart they have a glue that has glitter already in it, might try that and then paint over that with some clear finger nail polish.
I was thinking of using hardware cloth or some small screen to get the scale effect on the cranks.
X2 on everything maachuu said. Here lately, I haven't been sanding the baits. I'll just put on two coats of Opaque White, letting it dry good between coats. I use the Envirotex two part epoxy coating and hang them by the bills to drip. It's the clear finish used on bar and table tops.

I' ve had just as good of luck without sanding them Larry. I always add a little water to the white. It seems to spray better if you thin it a little. With two coats, it covers completely and doesn't peel off. The reason I hang mine is so a lot of the top coat will drip off. It still leaves an even finish, just not as thick. You just have to trim the excess off of the rear eyelet with a pocket knife when it dries.

what you doing to keep the eyes white? then how about the eyes? how you doing the blacks of the eyes?
White paint then black paintDoh. Seriously two different size drill bits or nails work for making the eyes. Just dip the end in paint then touch the bait and you have an eye.
Go to Wally World in the crafts dept. and get bottles of white and black enamel craft paint. I'll squirt a little puddle on a paper plate and I use the tip of a Sharpie marker to do the white. When that dries, I use the blunt end of a small drill bit to do the black. When you top coat, they are there forever.
