Sounds like a keeper.;) Congrats on the new electronics. Hate it you gotta pull double shifts to pay for it though.:D:D:D
Congrats I also just purchase one last week. Keep me updated as well. Maybe you can help me learn something new with it.
You LUCKY DEVIL!!!!
just opened it up.everthing looks good.the only thing is that i have to figure out how to mount transducer on trolling motor
You will need either the Humminbird AD-XTM9 Trolling Motor Adapter bracket or one from an aftermarket company like Transducer Shield & Saver. Better call for one though as I don’t know if Scap has them up on his web site yet.
thanks greg i was going to ask about how to mount on trolling motor . i will ask for more help soon when i get time. really dont have a lot of time right now .i did make a quick temp. install tonight. things went very well. directions were easy to follow. from what i have seen so far useing the the sim. mold im more than pleased. as a matter of fact im really shocked as to how quick it changes from one screen to another much quicker than my 997 and the sceen is very clear. it must have a faster processor . im glad that ive got it.i really really like the 2d over di screen its going to help me see bottom hardness much easer. heres a picture that i took when i get time ill update for everbody
just got done playing with 597di. completely blone away.this thing is unbelievable
Have you used it on the water yet? I was blown away by the demo at first also. I see you have a motor guide trolling motor. Is it a varible speed motor. If it is be prepared to possibly have electrical interference. I had to insulate the transducer with rubber, ground the skeg, put on a new power cable from humminbird and run a new hot, ground wire from my starting battery (away from any other wires) in order to solve my electrical interference problem. Before that the digital depth would not match the bottom reading, the depth would go from 20 to 1000 feet , and lines would flow across the screen when you stepped on the switch to the trolling motor. One particular problem I still have is that when you put the map on course up it keeps switching back and forth from course up to north up even when I maintain a true south course. This can be confusing when you are in open water. This is not a "donut" effect as I was traveling @1.9 miles per hour with the current and the wind. I also have a lowerance unit and have never expierienced this with that unit. The down imaging pictures are however very good.
badaxed; thanks for the info. i may need to ask for some help from you later.i have not used on the water yet.it may be alittle while before i can because im still working double shifts for awhile yet. i took my navionics card from my 997 and put it in the 597di to see how it would work.wow is all i can say.sooming in and out and scrolling no delays.really good response on the unit.alot faster than my 997.also i noticed that the 50 channel gps of the597 way way faster getting a gps fix compared to my 16 channel 997. as for right now to sum up my reaction to what ive seen, well im just going to call the 597di a 997 with a smaller screen no si , a 997 on steroids
badaxed;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; do you have a picture of your transducer setup
update; badaxed got me worryed so i went ahead and mounted my transducer on the trolling motor. i used my transom mount kit on it or some of it anyways.looks kindof kool i think.well its temp anyways so doesnt really matter.started unit in sim. mold run trolling motor at different speeds. no interference at all . dont no what will happen in the water though. got to goto bed now. more updates to come soon
contratulations, Kosmo, on your new finder.
Kosmo, appreciate your info. I'm planning on upgrading my bow electronics soon. Planning on a 788 hd di, to link later with an 898 on my console. Curious about he interference issues as well. Would hate for that to be a deal breaker for me. Keep us posted.
update;dont use the trolling motor battery.i tryed external battery lot better results . the 2d shows little to no noise.the 455 shows a little more.the 800 shows alot. can someone please tell me the procedure for grounding the skeg.thanks
yahoo i got it.i not recommending the way that i got it to work but it works great without any rf noise.i took a role of copper mesh about 3/4 to 1 inch wide and rapped it around trolling motor used electrical tape to cover it them mounted tranducer.wallla no noise.i also connected the power cable back to boat battery.works great. now when i get time to go out on the lake i will post pictures
hay yall just forget what i said in the above post.when out on the water for the first time with 597.all that stuff that i did didnt work.called humminbird. they were very helpful.there going to send me a free different kind of power cable with a in line choke.they also gave me some helpful tips that i tryed.now i only have rf noise on the 800 frez.when the trolling motor is running slow.ill update when i get the new cable installed P.S. from what i saw today with the unit i would not recomend buying just di without 2d. the fish arches are way easier to see than the spots on di.i dont no why anyone would recomend di only.also i still think the si is the way to go
i almost forgot something else.i stopped the boat dead still and lowered down a 1/16 ounce tube jig and watched it go up and down on the 2d and the di.once again i think i think the 2d was easier to see but it worked on both
Got any screen snapshots of that Kosmo?
Greg: I have met several fishermen who have had the same problem (electrical interference) with the new DI humminbirds . Is this an endemic problem with these units. I have never had this problem with my lowerance products. I know this is specific to trolling motors with a varible switch. Also why is the screen stretched out when you go to the split screen (DI/2d)? This view distorts the structure signifigantly. Is there a setting to reduce this distortion? Also is there a setting to get this finder to work in less than 3 feet of water without the digital reading going from 1 foot to 400 feet? There are solid horizontal bars of several layers blue/yellow/red in addition to the incorrect depth readings when in this shallow water. I have been very frustrated with all the issues this unit has been giving me. any help would be appreciated.
heres some more pictures
Nice shots Kosmo
heres a there more pictures. i think that there all the same shot, just different views
badaxed,
What software version is your 587ci HD DI running?
If not the current 5.470 version than download the software and install it.
If that does not help, than try switching the frequency you are using for the 2D sonar.
Adjusting the Surface Clutter also helps sometimes.
The trolling motor interference is more likely to show up in units that use the 455kHz frequency which the new DI units use for both 2D and DI sonar. Depending on how much RF your trolling motor puts off will determine whether you will see it or not. You should contact Humminbird’s Customer Resource folsk if you are experiencing this.
The display gets split vertically when displaying both the 2D and DI sonar so it has the same number of pixels wide (which represents history) but has half the vertical pixels to display both the 2D sonar and the DI sonar. If this looks stretched, than try decreasing the Chart Speed menu setting.
kosmo,
I see in one of the pictures that you were viewing a Sonar Recording. Why not make some Screen Snapshots so everyone can see what is on the display a little clearer?
heres three moire
i went out on kentucky lake after i got off from work, went to a ledge in little bear that i new had structure on it .turned on my record on unit and used my trolling to troll down one side of the ledge. i then went back to the house and viewed the recording while sitting in the driveway taking pictures with my cell .and changing the color pallets and screen views to see what i liked bettter. ill tke some snap shots later though. and upload them for yall.
heres some with different color pallet .one has spoon billed catfish in it
badaxed; sorry to here so many problems with your unit.i also have had some issues with rf noise, but not really all that bad.all of the pictures that i have posted are with my trolling motor running.im still waiting on the new power cable from humminbird.(maybe i give them the wrong address) i really don't remember ive worked to many hours.if it doesn't come soon ill give them a call.even without the new cable im still very pleased with the unit . the pictures that i took are all 455hz next time ill try the 800hz and post pictures.P.S> can you describe the distortion a little more that you have with the spit screen ,because i cant really see any in the pictures that i have.thanks
badaxed; i just rembered something, when i first tryed my unit with the transducer in the cooler of water, there at the house the dept kept changing wildly .i read on another forum to change the surface clutter. i did that and it did work. it showed a constant dept then of 1.5 or 1.8 or what ever.i really don't remember, but it did work, i think that i have it set to the max. setting now.give that a try and let us no the results. thanks
got my new power cable with the built in choke in the mail today from humminbird .hurray!!!!!!! ill install as soon as i can and let youall no the rersults.doesnt really matter to me if it changes anything though.the 597 works really great the way it is.this will be a plus if it makes things better.P.S. im still working these double shifts, it mite be afew days befor i can test it
just to let you know, i am following your progress, kosmo, as you were so kind to me in my lengthy thread
kosmo the pics look great. Got a question for you. I see in all the bass pro ads that they say the 596 & 597 hd di are 4000 watts peak to peak but at the hummingbird store they say that they are 2400 watts peak to peak. Who is right???
